Battlestar Galactica Prequel: Caprica Trailer
With the second half of Battlestar Galactica’s fourth and final season due to air in January 2009, a lot of people have been wondering what The Sci-Fi Channel will do without their heavy hitter in the line-up anymore. And the obvious answer is… make a spin-off! We’ve been hearing for a while that they were planning a prequel series called Caprica, and now it looks like it’s finally being prepared for a December premiere.
Surprisingly, it seems quite different from Battlestar Galactica, in that there are no giant space battles to be seen. It is basically a family drama that is set in the not too distant future, where robots are gradually being integrated into society (a path that eventually leads to the creation of the Cylons). It seems more akin to A.I. or Children of Men than Star Wars, and while some may be put off by the lack of big action scenes and typical sci-fi imagery, I actually think it sounds more interesting than BSG. Sean– I have never heard you guys discuss BSG on Film Junk. Are you guys fans? Personally, I have never seen it, but I hear about it constantly. It has me interested, if only to see what the big deal is.

Posted by Paul on July 22nd, 2008I really liked the first season and a half, then it went downhill in my opinion. I stopped watching after the first few episodes of Season 3 but I’m planning to give it another chance at some point.
Not sure if Jay or Greg have watched much of it.
Posted by Sean on July 22nd, 2008This looks kind of … good. I mean you’ve got Lance from Pulp Fiction/ The Fly II and that’s great! I guess it’s a different enough kind of story that it won’t just be anti-climactic prequel material.

I think Caprica is going to be an utterly different beast, but I actually think it might do better than many think.
What is more interesting is, will anything in the Caprica pilot be played out/built upon in the final 0.5 season of our beloved BSG? /strokesfakebeard
