And Ebert and Roeper’s Replacements Are…

… Ben Mankiewicz and Ben Lyons?! Well, I guess that’s what Ebert meant when he said they were taking the show in a new direction. I don’t actually know who these guys are, but just from looking at them you can tell that they’re going for a totally different audience.

Mankiewicz was previously a host on Turner Classic Movies, while Lyons was the co-host of Your Movie Show on MTV and now does a segment for E! called The Lyons Den. Ugh. I guess the new version show will still be called At The Movies, but I don’t think I’ll be tuning in very often.

  1. gag

  2. “ugh” is right

  3. Hmmmm. Lost my comment. I’ll try again.

Told yeah these guys were babies. Just what we need, a bunch of kids telling the American public what to watch. Mike has the right sentiment:

    Gag me with a spoon.

Did you guys blow off your audition call?

  4. He seems fine on Turner Classic Movies. Roeper is pretty young himself…

  5. Reed Farrington should host with a splitscreen of himself. I’m positive he’d find ways to disagree, even with himself.

  6. 2 thumbs down

  7. Mankiewicz is a radio show DJ

  8. I watched the new show tonight and it was terrible. The new guys don’t look natural on film. They can’t act and its almost as though it were canned TV. I miss Roeper already. The net work has lost me.

  9. Elisabeth says it all. I watched it and the one time was enough.

How did they choose these guys? The new direction is DOWN!

  10. Oh bah. I occasionally checked out atthemoviestv.com to see what had to be said but I was shocked to see that they’d changed everything. These guys are awful. I really missed Ebert, but now, and I never thought I’d say this, I miss Roper. And what happened to the old archives of reviews with Siskel? They had a good thing going and they killed it.

  11. The new show, the new guys, the new look. LOUSY

  12. I like the old show, why do you think that change always means young. I enjoy the wiser more thorough opinion of the critics than this so-called hip laid back look.

They look unemployed and they sound uninformed.

Shame on management. You lost me. I’ve found something else to do with my time and I rely on other sources.

  13. Why do we not have and one man and one women?
