If there’s one role that Matthew McConaughey was born to play, it’s a surfer, and yet somehow this trailer for the upcoming comedy Surfer, Dude rings false on almost every level. The synopsis for the movie on IMDB says it’s about “a soul searching surfer experiencing an existential crisis”, but John From Cincinnati it ain’t.

For the most part it looks like just your average stoner comedy (perhaps riding a new wave inspired by the upcoming Seth Rogen comedy Pineapple Express), but with the exception of Woody Harrelson, it doesn’t really look all that funny. Strangely, writer/director S.R. Bindler previously did the documentary Hands on a Hard Body, which I’ve heard good things about. What do you think, is there more than meets the eye with this flick? Surfer, Dude is scheduled to hit theatres sometime this fall.
