New To Theatres This Weekend – July 18, 2008

It’s the weekend we’ve all been waiting for… the motion picture event of the summer has arrived. Of course, you know I am talking about Mamma Mia!, the movie based on the beloved ABBA musical! There’s also a little film called The Dark Knight hitting theatres this weekend, but I’m sure no one will see that. Also out is the animated Space Chimps, Johnnie To’s Mad Detective and the Lou Reed concert film Berlin, directed by Julian Schnabel. I’d love to see Brad Anderson’s Transsiberian, but since it’s playing all of 2 theatres at the moment, that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

I can’t believe we live in a world where fucking “Space Chimps” gets made. You have to wonder if they are even ashamed to be mentioned in the same category as films like “Ratatouille” and “Wall-E.”
