Rick Moranis Turns Down Ghostbusters Video Game?

Like many Ghostbusters fans, I’ve been looking forward to the upcoming Ghostbusters video game coming later this year from Terminal Reality. The entire cast will be returning to voice their characters, and as many people have pointed out, it is basically the next best thing to getting a third movie. However, a recent article at the German gaming site Das Gamer points out that there is one cast member who isn’t involved in the game: Rick Moranis. Apparently he “made so much money off of Honey I Shrunk The Kids that he retired”.

Strange as it might sound, Honey I Shrunk The Kids did make $222 million worldwide (the 293rd highest grossing movie of all-time!). I don’t know if I buy the excuse that he’s retired though. Over the past few years he has contributed his voice to Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2, in addition to The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie that we reported on last month. I don’t see why he would be against voicing his character for a Ghostbusters game again — unless they wanted him for motion capture as well. (I wouldn’t want to wear one of those spandex suits either!) Still, as much as I am disappointed, I don’t think it will hurt the game all that much. It sucks that we may never see the guy on the big screen again though.

  1. Too bad. Louis Tully had some classic lines from the movies but I doubt they would translate to a video game. “OK, who brought the dog?”

  2. I think the video of the game I’ve seen looks great so far (and it could be a great movie game because it’s not being rushed out for a new release). I’d care if Rick Moranis didn’t wanna come back for Wes Anderson’s new Ghostbusters movie (great idea Jay) but his lack of involvement in a game wont affect gameplay value.

  3. I miss this guy. I’d even be down to see My Blue Heaven 2.
