Monday Morning Box Office Report – July 7, 2008

Once again, another opening weekend smash leaves little doubt that Will Smith is still the most reliable movie star working today. Although Hancock seemed to be getting pretty harsh reviews, it still made $66 million over the weekend ($107 million if you include screenings earlier in the week). Those are some impressive numbers, especially when you’ve got a Pixar movie to contend with. WALL-E made another $33 mil in its second week, while Wanted notched an addition $20 million. Get Smart and Kung Fu Panda rounded out the top 5, while Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is now well past the $300 million mark. Nice to see Kit Kittredge: An American Girl also showing up in the Top 10 this week, giving the blockbusters a run for their money.

1. Hancock — $66M
2. WALL·E — $33.4M
3. Wanted — $20.6M
4. Get Smart — $11.1M
5. Kung Fu Panda — $7.5M
6. The Incredible Hulk — $4.98M
7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — $3.94M
8. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl — $3.6M
9. Sex and the City — $2.35M
10. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan — $2M

  1. Will Smith looks so weird without a mustache.

  2. I just saw Hancock and the shift in tone didn’t bother me so much; probably because I had a warning of it. I still haven’t figured out what movie it can be compared to that counts as a spoiler.
