Resident Evil 4 In The Works?

If you thought that the Resident Evil movie franchise was going to wrap up nicely as a trilogy, well, think again. According to Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the first two films, Sony is currently entertaining thoughts of a fourth Resident Evil movie. It is still in the early discussion stages, but considering how successful the first three movies were, I am guessing there is a strong chance this will come to pass.

To be honest, I’ve never been crazy about the direction that they took these movies in, but I get the impression that they could keep making Resident Evil flicks for the next 20 years, and people would still pay to see them. Assuming Milla Jovovich is still involved, of course. Without Jovovich, I’m not sure that the franchise could survive. Would you see a fourth Resident Evil movie without her? Personally, I’m more interested to see what comes of the computer animated Resident Evil movie that Capcom is currently working on.

I confess that I’ve never seen any of the reportedly terrible Resident Evil movies, so I would not have any qualms about seeing RE4 without Milla. I have however fallen in love with the 2005 Resident Evil 4 video game. The greatest video game ever made. In my opinion, the closer they stick to the characters, storyline, the visual style, and the action of the game, the better the film will (would) be.

  2. RE4 is definitely one of my all-time favourite games too. Unfortunately I don’t think the movie would have anything to do with that game specifically.

  3. God damn it…

  4. RE4 is my favorite as well and I’ve played through every one except Zero, the remake, and the online ones. It’s my favorite franchise. I’ve already had my Paul W.S. Anderson rant in a comments section. Therefore, I’m just gonna reiterate the fact that the first game had a great plot all in itself. Romero had apparently written a script for it that wasn’t only loosely based. They should go in Romero’s direction again and ditch Jovovich. I want Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, or Leon Kennedy! They should call it Biohazard (the japanese title) to displace it from the others for the casual audience and make it horror like it was supposed to be. My version would be complete with text that says “You are about to enter a world of survival horror” at the beginning.

In a few months my next gen systems will probably start rotting until RE5….

  5. In the vein of Ryan’s idea that a proper Resident Evil movie should begin with “You are about to enter a world of survival horror”, I think there needs to be a Redband trailer for an RE movie that says Rated R “For scenes of extreme violence and gore” like the games do (or at least did, as I haven’t played past Nemesis).

  6. What about Jessica Alba? She’s into sci-fi action movies.

  7. So there is another Resident Evil movie happening well I don’t know about that there is other Capcom games going to movies with Lost Planet,Devil May Cry and Onimusha,I hope that plot of the Onimusha movie is going to be scapped and getting Kazunori ito to rewrite the script with Keiji Inafune.
Street Fighter The Legend Of Chun Li was a big mistake
so I hope there could be a Darkstalkers movie in the future.
    Thank You.
