I truly can't see the flaws that Sean is trying to get at. I feel like he is just attacking Pixar and not the film itself. Just because everyone sings Pixar's praises shouldn't go into your opinion of Wall-E. I think it's safe to say that the level of appreciation Pixar and Disney have for the vision of the film makers is pretty exemplary. The only true knock you have on Wall-E is that the sounds get overly cute and you couldn't find a deeper meaning. Well how can you give Wanted a 3 1/2 star review? Look at the film making, how somehow we are traveling through space with a non speaking trash collector. How most people felt a lot of emotion during the romantic scenes, and these involved animated freaking robots. The set design, the action scenes, all the small details are truly amazing. It's pure, nearly perfect film making. I can't quite understand the critisism of the film and I usually always can see another side. Sometimes this comes from expectations and not knowing how to watch a film. I'm guessing Sean's favorite movies are Fight Club, the Matrix, Memento and Being John Malk. So if you hear about an amazing Sci Fi film he has to go in expecting a bend in reality and alternate universes. He also didn't like Ratatouille, which is really mind boggling. If you can't appreciate these movies I don't really know if you understand film, or how to analyze them. If you take the time to really analyze Wall-E it's very hard to walk away with a 3/4 star review. What happened to story telling, characer development, set design, action sequences, scores, amazing scenes? When did it just become about blowing your mind?

I'm with you Jenny. From the reaction this film is just as perfect and brilliant as all the other Pixar films that have been released.

Rian: You're not alone, there are many, many other people out there who feel this is a perfect film. I just was just not one of them. Maybe I will gain more appreciation for it with repeat viewings. Lately I've been feeling the need to revisit Ratatouille, which I wasn't overly smitten with after my initial viewing either.

I genuinely loved this movie from beginning to end. I can see why people didn't like all the human stuff in the movie. I liked the fact they had a non-animated Fred Willard and it would of made his role more meaningful if they didn't have animated humans in the mix.

2001: A Space Odyssey is one of the best films I have ever seen and seeing all the homages to 2001 in Wall-E was pretty cool.

By the way, the Wall-E sound clip you guys played on the podcast was fucking classic.

3 out of 4?!

...calm down, Rian...

Wall is an immediate 4 out of 4, 5 out of 5, or 10 out of 10 for me. It's probably nudged The Incredibles out of the way to become my 2nd favorite Pixar movie after Toy Story. I was seriously on the verge of tears at the end. This could very well be my favorite film of the year so far.

"never ever bring up imdb scores of new movies. they are always inflated, no matter what movie it is"

I realize that the score will drop from its present inflated value, but I guess my point is that there must be a lot of people giving this movie 10s (having seen it or not) and it just is not a perfect film.
