Monday Morning Box Office Report - June 30, 2008

I don’t think too many people will be surprised to hear that WALL-E topped the box office charts this past weekend, but what is a bit surprising is how much money Wanted also made. $51 million is a pretty impressive amount, considering the competition and I’m sure they’re already contemplating how they can make a sequel. WALL-E fell in line with most of the recent Pixar releases, earning a decent $62 million which was slightly more than Cars but less than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Get Smart maintained the #3 spot with another $20 mil, while Kung Fu Panda spent its fourth straight week in the Top 5 with $11 mil. The Incredible Hulk rounded out the Top 5.
1. WALL·E — $62.5M
2. Wanted — $51.1M
3. Get Smart — $20M
4. Kung Fu Panda — $11.7M
5. The Incredible Hulk — $9.23M
6. The Love Guru — $5.44M
7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — $5.03M
8. The Happening — $3.85M
9. Sex and the City — $3.77M
10. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan — $3.2M

Yep, definitely no surprises. I’m a fan of the Wanted graphic lit, and although I haven’t seen the movie yet I hope they don’t make a sequel because then it would fall upon whatever ridiculous plot the screenwriters would come up with without source material (it looks as if they have already changed too much). Still haven’t listened to the podcast yet but I hope I hear something good about it.
Too bad I live in bum fuck nowhere with a wrecked car; I wont be able to get friends to come out of their holes and chauffeur for anything less than The Dark Knight after this weekend. *sigh*
Posted by Ryan on June 30th, 2008I really liked Wanted.
Posted by joe on June 30th, 2008Wall-E will be my film of choice on this, my birthday weekend. Though I’m already tired of people saying that it will be the “highest rated film of the year.” They did that for “Ratatouille”, too.
No shit. It’s a pixar film. They should be placed in the pantheon in terms of reviews, because they are always highly praised. Christ– they do take years to make.
Posted by Jon Rocks on June 30th, 2008Even though I don’t care too much about box office numbers, the gap between Wall-E and Wanted is smaller than I expected.
