300 Sequel In The Works, Frank Miller To Be Involved

When a movie makes over $450 million worldwide, you can rest assured that there will be a sequel, one way or another. In the case of 300, the idea of a sequel might seem a little out of place, but that certainly doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try and make it happen anyway. You may recall that the movie was based on a standalone graphic novel written by Frank Miller (which, in turn, was based loosely on the historical Battle of Thermopylae) and that a lot of people die in it. Well, according to Variety, Legendary Pictures have now confirmed that they are developing a sequel and that Zack Snyder is interested in directing.

The big question is, where will the story come from? There appears to be good news on this front, as Frank Miller is reportedly writing a new graphic novel that could either be a prequel or a spin-off. This will likely to be used as the source material for the movie, although producers want to make sure that it is “as compelling as the first”. I could go either way on this one. Frank Miller’s involvement is definitely a deal breaker in my mind, but it’s pretty obvious he is being lured into writing this sequel just because of the success of the first. A similar story told in the same style may just be completely redundant at this point. The project may also take a while to get off the ground, considering Miller’s other commitments, and audiences may lose interest if they cannot strike while the iron is still hot. Would you like to see a 300 sequel? If not, what would it take to get you interested in one?

  1. I would very much welcome a sequel of 300. I loved 300 and it’s one of my favourite films ever. But the more that I think about it, the more I realize that a sequel will have to be done in exactly the same way that fans of the original like. And the more the sequel looks like the the original, the less original both films will end up being. But unless Miller is involved, I won’t even fein interest.

  2. I don’t think it’s a good idea. The farther we get form 300, the more people realize that there isn;t as much to it as originally thought. I was an okay movie, that’s about it. Sequel? No.

  3. 300 was an okay movie. It does not need a sequel or a prequel. It is what it is: a bunch of guys killing each other with swords. Another one would be different guys killing each other with different swords. No thanks.

  4. I liked 300, but doesn’t really hold up with repeat viewing even on Hi-def. I am not really interested in seeing another sequel. Maybe if it was 300 women, then yes I would.

  5. This is bad from all perspectives. Primal is right, 300 doesn’t hold up well to repeated viewings. I got joy from 300 knowing that if I ever get into the industry technology will allow me to make whatever fantasy epic I could dream of. Now that this jolt of happiness is gone it is obvious the film has the depth of a kiddie pool. If Frank Miller doesn’t pen the screenplay I’ll spit on it.

  6. 300 sucked, modern movies suck, i suck, and you suck. SUCK.

  7. Once you get past the visual splendor there isn’t much to 300 and the fact that they’re making a sequel to a movie like this is a joke (Hamlet 2 anyone?) If anything it would have to be a prequel and have Leonidas back otherwise it will spell disaster. Heh, j/k. Look at all the [idiots] that enjoyed Transformers and Meet the Spartans. They’ll make millions either way.

  8. I will look forward to another excellent trailer.

  9. will it be called 301 or 300 2?

  10. anything miller touches seems like a shallow power fantasy for 11 year olds.

    frank and zack suck!

  11. i think that a sequel would be pretty cool, but i can agree with everybody else on you really cant do a sequel considering the matter of the fact, that the 300 did all die except for the one soldier( according to the film) sent back to sparta to spread the word of the victory, if i would do a sequel i would deffinately pick up where the movie left off, to go more in depth about what happened after the 300 was killed and the battle that happened after

  12. if it was me i would make a whole series of films about the the spartan and persian wars, there is enough years to cover for that,
