G.I. Joe’s The Baroness Gets a Breast Enlargement

It’s pretty clear that after all these years Hollywood is still a boy’s club for the most part, but sometimes you hear about stories like this and you have to shake your head. According to the SFGate’s Daily Dish, Sienna Miller was required to wear fake boobs for her role as The Baroness in the upcoming movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Apparently she wasn’t endowed enough for director Stephen Sommers:
“They gave me these things that looked like chicken fillets. The director said, ‘I’m gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs,’ and I don’t have them so we made them bigger… At least he’s honest. But I was mildly offended.”
I expect these kinds of demands from Michael Bay, but apparently Sommers isn’t any more classy. Do you think this is a fair demand to place on an actress? I know this is a movie targeted at teenage boys, but if you really want someone with bigger breasts, then cast someone with bigger breasts! Either that or enhance them digitally without the actress knowing. It just seems horribly shallow, but I guess that’s Hollywood for you!

That’s sad.

This seems to obviously make sense, but it’s just a matter of where you draw the line. She’s a blonde I believe, yet plays a brunette. If Robert De Niro can get praised for putting on 20 pounds for a role and walk around in special Al Capone suits, we should all praise this woman for her dedication to the character. Obviously they chose her because she is the best actress for the part, and then work on her looks afterwards. Throw some tits on her while you’re at it, it’s all part of the job.
I think Stephen Sommers was misquoted. I’m sure he mentioned something about the character actually having big breasts somewhere, surely he’s not toying around with sacreligious iconic characters just because he wants a boner watching dailies? Oh well… At least he’s honest about it.
Posted by Henrik on June 27th, 2008Agreed. Instead of worrying about Sienna’s boobs he should put his efforts into making an actual COHERENT film. I followed the plot Julian Donkey Boy easier than I did that piece of shit Van Helsing.
Posted by ProjectGenesisGangster on June 27th, 2008i don’t know how enhancing boobs digitally without the actor knowing would be less offensive and shallow than asking the actor to wear some prosthetics. they’re actors so they have to adapt, just because she’s not well endowed doesn’t mean the character shouldn’t be.
also as miller is quoting sommers i wouldn’t take that alleged comment literally, if she felt offended she probably remembers it very differently from what it really was.
and finally come on sean, hollywood blockbuster fare is quite shallow, that’s a given.
Posted by GiL on June 27th, 2008Sommers sounds like a real douche. But that’s beside the point. Her Breasts could be the size of Chevy Aveos. It’s not gonna make his shitty GI Joe movie any better.
Posted by Matt on June 27th, 2008This doesn’t sound as though it was necessary to me. I guess I don’t really care though. If I were Sienna Miller I can see being pissed, but I’m not her and I probably won’t even notice the change when I see the movie, so…whatever.
Posted by Rian on June 27th, 2008Did the guys in 300 complain about going to the gym? Looking a role is important. Seriously though, there is no reason why The Baroness needs to be an ultimate sex bomb. Stephen Sommers just sucks; and (if he isn’t being misquoted) he should have come up with a better excuse for her having larger breasts.
Posted by Ryan on June 27th, 2008Hollywood is not known for promoting and supporting class and morals. The mindset in this story just solidifies the theory.
Posted by Baychuk on June 28th, 2008There’s nothing wrong or inapropriate in faking bigger boobs. That’s what movies are all about. Making us believe something is real when it’s not. If the director felt that the character needed bigger boobs, then she should have it. He couldn’t “just cast someone else” because he wanted Sienna Miller. And if it was up to her, I’m quite sure she’d rather be in the movie, than being left out because of her lack of the Pamela Lee syndrome.
Posted by Christian E on June 28th, 2008I don’t know– the more I hear about this film, the less i look forward to it.
Posted by Jon Rocks on June 29th, 2008Stephen Sommers could care a rats ass about not toying around with sacrilegious iconic characters!!! Point—> Ripcord was a Caucasian that grew up in Columbus, Ohio.
Posted by Crichtonx on July 16th, 2008This movie is gonna suck big time. It will resemble nothing from the original comic or the 80’s cartoon. It will be just like the stupid G.I.JOE Sigma Six.
And all the execs at Hasbro know this. Because they want to move all their left over Sigma Six toy stock.
Where in the comics did they ever wear team costumes!!!
Thanks to Stephen Sommers, this movie will be sacrilegious to Larry Hamas’ name. A multi-million dollar pile of crap.
Sommers is full of himself. He is the only Director I know who felt he was overworked and needed to spend some time off. He has forgotten the days when he had nothing.
