Hmm, I would have to agree with you there, Sean. Influences from Pulp Fiction can be seen on Richies movies. But Ritchie’s movies are some of the coolest, and most influential movies of the 90s themselves. And as for him “not moving on,” I would say that he’s just doing what he does best. Maybe he is a little one-dimentional in that sense. I think it’s ok for him to keep making movies like this as long as he has good dialouge, interestring characters, keeps the stories and conflicts fresh and reinvents the way they are told. Unless he does that he is letting the sub genre (edgy gangster flick) get old and stale. That can happen to any sub genre, no matter how exciting it is in the beginning. Look what happened to Jason Stateham’s testoserone driven macho explosion martial arts extravaganzas.

Matt: I know it’s not fair to say Ritchie’s movies rip off Pulp Fiction directly, however, I think it’s pretty obvious he was influenced by it. Throughout the 90’s there was a massive spike in “edgy” gangster flicks, and to me, Guy Ritchie has still not moved on from this.

I can’t wait to see this movie. It comes out on my friend’s birthday, and I’ll be going to see this instead of hanging out with him…or at least in addition to hanging out with him. Snatch and Lock Stock are two of my favorite movies, those ones that I could just watch over and over and over again and never get tired of. Revolver was a good movie, but I’ve been dying for more of this wacky style of film from Ritchie for years now. October can’t get here fast enough as far as I’m concerned.

Finally a Guy Richie movie worth checking out. Stick to your guns, Guy. And I would vehemently disagree with you, Sean, that his movies are just Pulp Fiction rip-offs. Snatch and LSATSB have their own style, vision, dark humor, and plot structure. And if you’re connecting Pulp Fiction with Guy’s movies just because his movies have guns and gangsters, then I have to disappoint you Sean. These types of movies existed way before PF. Sorry to sound like a movie dork here. I like Pulp Fiction, Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. But Richie did not Rip off Pulp Fiction. Or at least, I refuse to admit it.
