Adam Yauch’s Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot Trailer

After years of directing videos and short films under the pseudonym Nathaniel Hornblower, it appears that the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch is finally looking to gain some respect as a full-fledged filmmaker. A couple years ago he directed and edited the B-boys concert film Awesome: I Fuckin’ Shot That, which culled together footage that was shot entirely by fans. This time around he is directing a serious documentary about high school basketball players on the road to the NBA called Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot.

From watching the trailer, the movie looks to showcase some awesome courtside action straight from the legendary Rucker Park in Harlem. It follows 8 of the top high school players in the country, after they participate in the Elite 24 all-star game. It’s unclear just how in-depth the movie gets (there is no sign of their home life or school life in the trailer) but it certainly seems to examine how high the stakes are for some of these kids and what it takes to make it to the top. What do you think, could this be the next Hoop Dreams? Check out the trailer below; for screening info check out the official site at www.gunninmovie.com.

  1. Man, that’s some terrible camera work. I think a sheet of papier-mâché has more dimension than this “film.”

Either the trailer is garbage or the whole thing will be garbage. He should have watched “Jordan to the max” to see how to make a real bball docu.
