Wargames 2: The Dead Code Trailer

I never thought I’d see the day when they’d make a sequel to Wargames starring Matthew Broderick, but now we can all rejoice because that day has actually arrived, and there’s even a trailer to prove it. Wargames: The Dead Code is more of a spiritual successor than anything, since I’m pretty sure it doesn’t involve any of the characters from the original. Matthew Broderick is certainly nowhere to be found, although they’d probably be doing him a favour if they at least threw him a cameo.

In this one, the government has designed a sim game involving terrorist attacks, but when hacker Will Farmer plays the game, he finds himself targeted by Homeland Security as a potential terrorist. From the trailer, it reminds me of a lot of the early internet thrillers that were popular in the 90’s like The Net and Hackers. Unfortunately, it also has the same problem as most of these films… none of the computer stuff actually seems believable. One of these days I’d like to see a hacker movie with an intelligent script, written by someone who knows what they’re talking about. Now that could be cool. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Wargames: The Dead Code is going direct to DVD, and hits stores on July 29th. Check out the trailer below.

  1. C’mon. You didn’t think “Untraceable” was believable?

  2. Takedown – that was even based on a true story! (It unfortunately gets referred to as ‘Hackers 2′, but has NOTHING to do with Hackers, so don’t expect to see naked Angelina Jolie in a swimming pool :D )
