Monday Morning Box Office Report - June 23, 2008
Steve Carell conquered the box office over the weekend, as Get Smart raked in a cool $39 million. Unfortunately Mike Myers didn’t fare quite so well, with The Love Guru taking in only $14 million, which was good enough for the #4 spot. Not absolutely pitiful, but certainly not great either. Kung Fu Panda is one of the surprises of the summer so far, taking the #2 spot again with another $21 million, while The Incredible Hulk was at #3 with almost the same amount. M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening rounded out the top 5. So the question now is, did people avoid The Love Guru because the commercials and trailers were unfunny, or is it because Mike Myers simply can’t draw a crowd like he used to?

To me The Love Guru just looked like stupid shit. Even though it’s not technically a red font comedy its still just as low. I never really go see comedies in theaters at all though.
