Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno Gets a Release Date

Aside from the occasional leaked YouTube video and the odd celebrity interview photo, we haven’t heard much about Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming Bruno movie so far. Of course, that’s exactly how he wants it right now… the less people that know about it while it’s in production, the better. But it seems that he and director Dan Mazer may be starting to wrap up filming, because the first major announcement regarding the movie has just been released.
The film, reportedly titled Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt (I don’t know if I believe it), now has a release date, and it is set to hit theatres on May 15th, 2009. This speaks volumes about Universal’s confidence and intentions for the film. They are planning it as a summer blockbuster that will go head to head with Ron Howard’s prequel to The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons. It is also the week after the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, and the week before Terminator 4. Lots of big movies to compete with, although the good news is that none of them are comedies. Are you looking forward to Bruno? Do you think it can do even better than Borat?

I’m so glad that you wrote “Bruno” instead of “BrÜno”, because the mutated vowel doesn’t make it more German or anything. BrÜno is no real name, BUno is …
Posted by Stefan on June 18th, 2008LOL. I like the title but I think Borat did a good job with “…the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a … Foreigner…”
Posted by Matt on June 18th, 2008Hope it’s not too much of a Borat clone.
I’m looking forward to it, although Borat was certainly a funnier character from the show.
Posted by Ryan on June 18th, 2008I think I’m in the same boat as everyone else in thinking that there’s no way Bruno could be better than Borat. He was always my least favorite character from Da Ali G Show, and I’m honestly just not looking forward to this movie all that much.
