Silverhawks Coming to DVD in October

Over the past few years, just about every 80’s cartoon known to man has received a DVD release of some sort, with various studios cashing in on the twenty-something crowd’s need for nostalgia. And just when you thought they had run out of cartoons to repackage, along comes a big announcement about one more classic series from Warner Brothers heading to stores this fall. That’s right… it’s Silverhawks!
According to TV Shows on DVD, Silverhawks: Season 1, Volume 1 has now been officially confirmed for release on October 14th. You may remember the show as a sci-fi version of Thundercats (which was produced by Rankin/Bass as well), where a team of heroes are outfitted with metal bodies and wings in order to stop criminals across the galaxy lead by Mon*Star (who, like Mumm-ra, also has a bad ass transformation sequence in virtually every episode). Suggested retail price for the DVD set is $44.98, which sounds a bit steep, but at least there was only one season of the show to worry about (65 episodes in total). Do you remember Silverhawks? Next up, I want to see the underwater version of Thundercats, TigerSharks!

I am horribly excited to have this sitting on my shelf. Like all of my other 80’s cartoon box sets, I will most likely watch one episode and never look at it again. But I did love Silverhawks, so maybe I’ll actually get past the pilot episode.
Posted by Jay C. on June 17th, 2008Do you have Captain N? New Adventures of He-Man? Conan: The Adventurer? Those are some of the greatest cartoon shows ever! I’m curious if anybody bought them.
Posted by Henrik on June 17th, 2008Every time I’ve bought a series like this, it’s been a nostalgic knee jerk purchase. Not that I’ve regretted it, because I do consider myself a “collector” of dvd’s. But still, the value of such purchases overall is questionable.
Posted by Jon Rocks on June 17th, 2008Jesus…I really miss that style of animation. I have really grown tired of the simplistic, boring animation of most kids’ shows these days. I would still watch cartoons if they looked like that.
Posted by Rian on June 18th, 2008Rian– I’ll second that. Kids animation these days is shit. I can see how you would be especially interested, being into animation yourself. But this type of cartoon (that’s what they used to be called, right) wouldn’t fly with today’s kids. Not enough bright colors and annoying voices.
After thinking about it, I think the only cartoon dvd season that I bought and watched all the way through was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Posted by Jon Rocks on June 18th, 2008I’ve never heard of Silverhawks but I would be interested in seeing Thundercats.
Posted by Stephen on June 18th, 2008There is a current SILVERHAWKS SCREENPLAY IN DEVELOPMENT. If you are interested e-mail me at trixspeed@yahoo.com and I will send it to you.
Posted by Trixspeed on January 19th, 2009The SILVER-HAWKS LIVE ACTION MOVIE is in the early process of development.
THE SILVER-HAWKS SCREENPLAY has already been written. This is the perfect time too due to all the C.G.I. driving action comic /cartoon movies that are coming out.
The story has been slightly changed around a lil bit, though it still remains true to the original cartoon.
**** BELOW ARE SCRIPT SPOILERS OF AN EARLIER DRAFT ****
MON*STAR: Is not a prisoner who frees himself. He is a
science experiment gone wrong. Still kind of cool though.
COPPER-KID: Is a young boy who stumbles into a military test site and gets caught up in an explosion; which scientist allow him to be apart of the Silver-hawks team in order to save his life.
STEAL-HEART & STEAL-WILL: Are both Japanese. Emily is in love with one of the scientist on the team. Who later becomes HOT-WING.
QUICK-SILVER: Actually receives TALLY-HAWK from the Copper-Kid as a gift for rescuing him.
MELODIA: Is a rebellious young teenager who ran away from home at an early age and joined a rock band. They have no idea about her ability to channel & magnify sound. *** NOTE *** We first find Melodia with–
POKER-FACE: A father of all lies type of character, who runs a (you guessed it) gambling casino. He seduces Melodia into staying with him and makes tons of money off her ability to change the odds of the slot machines etc.
NOTE: Melodia is looking for her father who left her when she was still a kid. Which surprisingly turns out to be MON*STAR.
NOTE: Poker-face took Melodia in and has been raising her ever since she was young. He blackmails her to stay with info on her fathers whereabouts.
MUMBO-JUMBO: Is in the film. Pretty much unchanged.
HARDWARE: Is in the film. Pretty much unchanged.
YESS-MAN: Is in the film. A good oh uncle Tom. (lol)
NOTE: One cool thing about the script is the Silver-hawks do not become the Android SILVER-HAWKS, until the >>>>>> last 15 minutes of the film. <<<<<
Instead they are in training the whole movie, wearing a PROTO-TYPE ARMOUR, that is gunmetal black.
Mon*Star doesn’t become Mon*star into the last 15 minutes of the script. Which ends on a hype by the way, as the Silver-hawks soar down below; in their new suits on planet BRIM-STAR for the final confrontation.
Yes Mon*Star does go through the famous transformation, only slightly different.
MOON STAR OF LIMBO: Is an enormous Red Star located in the center of THE GALAXY OF LIMBO. Deep within the far regions of space. The moon star was affected by gamma rays from a black hole that passed close by millions of years ago.
THE GALAXY OF LIMBO: A galaxy not to far away from planet Earth. Transportation to that part of the galaxy is made possible by the advance light speed travel technology courtesy of I.F.H. (INTERPLANETARY FORCE H.)
MY THOUGHTS ON THE SCRIPT: All in all, Silver-hawks is a rock em sock em action packed sci-fi drama with tons of twisting interlocking stories (also a lil bit of romance thrown in there, that works) –
filled with adrenaline pumping, jaw dropping action scenes; that will definitely leave you craving for more.
Can’t wait for the sequel. Hope this was helpful.
