New H.R. Pufnstuf Movie in the Works?

The children’s TV shows that are being made nowadays have got nothing on the weird ass shows we used to watch back in the 70’s and 80’s. Sure The Teletubbies are strange, but what about H.R. Pufnstuf? Over the years, the show was (understandably) accused of being the result of a drug-fueled haze, and has since been parodied by Wonder Showzen and imitated by Yo Gabba Gabba!. But get this… an all-new H.R. Pufnstuf movie may soon be headed in our direction!

Sid and Marty Krofft, the creators of H.R. Pufnstuf, are currently bringing another one of their TV shows to the big screen with Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell. According to a recent interview with the IESB, they are also finalizing a deal with a studio to adapt both H.R. Pufnstuf and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Now, they already did a movie made back in 1970 called simply Pufnstuf, but I’m interested to see what kind of direction they take this in. Will it be tongue-in-cheek, or will they play it completely straight? Will they embrace the stoner audience and people who grew up watching it, or market it strictly to kids? Either way, it could make for some interesting visuals. I’m looking forward to Land of the Lost as well.
