District B13 Gets a Sequel

It looks like a sequel to the 2004 French action film Banlieue 13 (aka District B13) has finally been greenlit, and to be honest, I’m just wondering what took so long. Luc Besson will once again be writing the script (which will probably be all of two pages), while Patrick Alessandrin (Mean Spirit) will replace Pierre Morel in the director’s chair.

District B13 was one of the first movies that I saw that used parkour as a creative and thrilling basis for its action sequences, and I really enjoyed it. Nowadays, parkour has begun to creep into mainstream action films everywhere, from Casino Royale to the Incredible Hulk (heck, there’s even a parkour video game on the way), but still none of them can compare with the amazing stunts and fight choreography found in District B13. David Belle, the so-called father of parkour, may or may not return for the sequel, but he recently posted about an open casting call for the film on his blog. Check out a clip from the first movie below; part 2 starts shooting sometime next month.

  1. i have never seen or heard of this film before. That clip was pretty damn cool.

  2. Yay! Time for more of that French action craze lol.

  3. I saw a video game, on PSP, on the shelf in Australia yesterday.

    “Jump using Parkour Power!”

Looked crap, but hey, it might be fun.

  4. B13 was a rather dull movie with some cool chase scenes. I don’t really think a sequel is necessary, but since the only notable thing about the new movie (much like the previous one) will most likely be the action sequences, I guess it doesn’t much matter if it’s a sequel or just some new unrelated film. None of the same characters will be coming back, will they? Does anyone care? I’ll bet twice as many people have watched B13’s parkour scenes on YouTube as have seen the actual movie. My bet is the same will be the case for a new one.
