P.T. Anderson to Direct Peter Bart’s Power Play Starring Jack Nicholson?

There’s a new rumour floating around the web this week about what Paul Thomas Anderson’s follow-up to There Will Be Blood might be. Here’s a hint: it’s not Metal Gear Solid!

According to the P.T. Anderson fansite Cigarettes & Red Vines, they’ve received a few tips that Anderson is going to be directing a movie called Power Play, based on a novella by Variety editor Peter Bart and produced by Robert Evans (The Kid Stays in the Picture). When Paramount first picked up the project, it drew controversy because the script was allegedly ghostwritten by Bart using his wife’s maiden name, in order to get around the fact that developing a movie is a direct conflict of interest for a showbiz journalist. Anderson was supposedly interested in directing it since the deal was first made in 1998, (back then he was just coming off Boogie Nights).

Power Play is about a Native American entrepreneur who gets on the wrong side the Las Vegas casino moguls after he starts his own gambling racket. Jack Nicholson is still rumoured to star. What do you think, could there be any truth to this? It’s hard to say at this point, but it does sound like something he might be interested in.

  1. Anyone else think a PT Anderson Metal Gear would have been awesome? I think so.

At least it would have been more interesting than most comic/video game movies that come out… all… the…time.

  2. Anything directed by PT Anderson “would be awesome” actually.

  3. Paul is a writer first and foremost, why would he direct a movie he didn’t write. I don’t buy it.

  4. @ Paul

You do know that “There Will b Blood” is also based on a book, right?
