Disaster Movie? The Jokes Write Themselves.

Man, I really can’t keep track of all these damn spoof movies anymore. It’s to the point where I don’t even remember if this one was previously announced or not, but apparently the geniuses behind Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Meet The Spartans are back for more hilarity with… wait for it… Disaster Movie! Say what you will, but these guys (Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg) are carving out a nice little living for themselves right now. Meet The Spartans isn’t even out on DVD yet (it hits stores this Tuesday) and already their next flick is almost done! Now if that’s not a sign of quality, I don’t know what is.
Disaster Movie stars (who else?) Carmen Electra, and while we don’t know specifically what movies they will be parodying, I’m guessing The Day After Tomorrow, Transformers and Cloverfield will figure heavily. Here’s the thing, as if these guys couldn’t get anymore unoriginal, there was already another movie that came out back in 2005 called Disaster! The Movie. (Apparently it was pretty terrible, but that’s beside the point.) That’s not stopping them from running this style of humour into the ground. As you can tell from the poster, they’ve got plenty more brilliant jokes lined up and ready to go. Disaster Movie hits theatres on August 29th… will you be there?

Hell no. I was there for the original Scary Movie. Now this genre is dead to me.
Posted by Ryan on May 30th, 2008Let’s be honest– this wasn’t a genre that ever had any real potential. These films haven’t been good since “Hot Shots”, and some would even begrudge me that one. It’s garbage for the feeble minded and teenagers. No stanks.
Posted by Jon Rocks on May 30th, 2008A friend of mine sums this “team” of “filmmakers” up quite nicely:
“Friedberg and Seltzer want you to say, “Hey! I recognize that thing!,” and then to laugh because, um, you recognize it. Actual “jokes” or “satire” are not necessary.”

I tend to agree with him.

Posted by Drew on May 30th, 2008can someone shoot these two guys? these movies are ridiculous but as long as people are going to see these movies, they’re going to make more.
Posted by twilightfox008 on May 30th, 2008Brett: That’s the perfect way to describe it. They just make a big list of everything that’s been in popular culture over the past 6 months, and then mix and match until they have a script that equals 90 minutes of screen time.
Posted by Sean on May 30th, 2008Next they’ll be coming up with “Movie Movie”, and play up all the conventional movie… uhh, well, conventions, and in the end, basically get a standard average hollywood film indistinguishable from anything else… the irony of which will be completely lost on everyone.
Posted by ivan on May 30th, 2008Not Another Teen Movie is the best spoof movie out there. Scary Movie a close, close second.

Been done.

Although i suppose that wouldn’t stop them.
Posted by Drew on May 31st, 2008Are these guys working on some kind of hyper irony OR just taking the idea balls that Family Guy discarded and running with it?
Posted by Ian on May 31st, 2008i think if people are going to make parody films they should make them more like austin powers.
Posted by Drew on May 31st, 2008Is everyone forgetting about “Hot Shots”? Or am I the only one who thinks that was a very good spoof movie?
Posted by Jon Rocks on May 31st, 2008Hot Shots Part Deux was even better I think.
Hey don’t get me wrong, there are some great spoof movies out there. I think most people would agree that the early Zucker/Zucker/Abrahams movies like the Naked Guns, Airplanes and Top Secret are great. But this new breed is giving the spoof “genre” a bad name.
Posted by Sean on May 31st, 2008baychuck, your license for talking about spoof movies has been revoked.
Airplane mother fucker!!!! The zucker brothers and jim abrahams are the kings and will always be…Not another teen movie and scary may be OK but they are shit compared to the old school spoofs and they are the movies that started this new generation of spoofs that are complete shit.
RE-FUCKING-VOKED…GET A SENSE OF HUMOR.
Posted by billyjoe on June 1st, 2008these guys may make films that to some seem sub-par, but either way, they are turning a profit. don’t hate. millions we’re talking. and some may not believe me but i have a small role in this movie, and since Jason and Aaron (who by the way are two of the chillest guys I’ve ever met) got this film produced without a major studio backing it, they have complete 100% creative control, which hasn’t happened on any of their previous films. This movie’s gonna be WAY funnier than the other ones, and when you guys see my part… I guarantee a good laugh
