Fred Durst’s The Longshots Trailer Starring Ice Cube
What kind of world do we live in where Fred Durst, former frontman for Limp Bizkit, is now carving out a career for himself as a big time filmmaker? Well, I suppose it’s not the first time someone has gone from music to movies, and from what I’ve heard, his directorial debut The Education of Charlie Banks was actually pretty good. But this… well this just doesn’t seem like the work of someone who once sang, “I did it all for the nookie (come on) the nookie (come on) / so you can take that cookie and stick it up your (yeah) stick it up your (yeah)”.
The Longshots is a sports comedy based on the true story of a girl named Jasmine Plummer, who became the first girl to play in the Pop Warner football tournament. Plummer is played by Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), while Ice Cube plays her slacker uncle who eventually goes on to coach the team. If you ask me, the movie looks way too cutesy and corny to be worthy of much attention, but hey, who knows… this could be Durst’s ticket to directing Disney movies for the rest of his life. The only question is, will they work with someone who has previously starred in a sex tape? I suppose there’s a first time for everything.

This looks like the typical Ice Cube feel good movie. Not impressed but I still want to see Durst’s first.
Posted by Marina on May 29th, 2008Fred Durst is directing!?!?!? hahahahahahaha
ps. I do like old Limp Bizkit though. The first album and parts of the next.
Posted by joe on May 29th, 2008There is a place I draw the line, and having Fred Durst possibly have a career directing major films is it.
It just doesn’t seem fair that he technically has the same occupation as people like Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson.
Posted by Jon Rocks on May 29th, 2008Eh, Durst had the same “occupation” as Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan (”singer”?) so I’m not so offended that he’s a director now. So are a lot of hacks. But this trailer doesn’t even look half bad. Not something I’d watch. Maybe I’m just completely stunned that Fred Durst could direct even a run-of-the-mill inspirational kiddie sports movie.
Posted by Joel on May 30th, 2008My son has written some the greatest music you love to hate! Break Stuff happens to be my favorite song ever, and the all of the music created by Fred came from hours and hours of hard work and a lot of sacrifice from Fred and the band.
No one could be as proud of Fred when I observed how much respect he earned by the crew and all of the staff when I visited the movie set of Longshots. He wouldn’t rest until he had done his best on every single aspect of directing this movie. I know you are saying, “But you are just his mother,†but what you may not know is that I have always been his hardest critic. I tell him the truth just as I am telling it to you.
Longshots is a tremendous movie. Icecube is an unbelievably talented actor in this movie, and was so humble to everyone. (He gave up his chair to me whenever I came onto the set, like a true gentleman, insisting that I be as comfortable as possible.) I will never forget his kindness and neither will the entire crew.
So, as with Fred’s music you love to hate, I hope you love to hate the wonderful director, Fred Durst, in the movie, Longshots.
Having Fred Durst as my son is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to my life. I have always loved to love him.
I love you guys, too. Anita Durst
Posted by Anita Durst on August 2nd, 2008Wow, this post from Ms. Durst will make me think twice about dissing anyone. I wouldn’t want to offend anyone’s mom!
(Henrik, you better hope Steven Spielberg’s mom doesn’t get wind of Film Junk.)
I was watching “XXX:State of the Union” starring Ice Cube last week, and I was joking with Jay how ridiculous it was that the movie was trying to make Ice Cube’s character more bad-ass than Vin Diesel’s character in the first XXX.
Oh, and Ms. Cube, I don’t like Ice’s music either. (And I’m not talking about Vanilla, although I hate his music, too.)
Posted by Reed Farrington on August 2nd, 2008Why are they calling him Ice T in the trailer LOL !?!?
Posted by Jim on August 12th, 2008Ms. Durst will be happy to know that no less a critic than Roger Ebert gave The Longshots a 3 out of 4 star rating. He had several nice things to say about the movie.
I think all the naysayers owe the Limp Bizkit main man a formal apology.
Personally, I don’t understand why some people think other people can only be good at one thing.
