Robert Rodriguez to Direct Women in Chains TV Series Starring Rose McGowan?

Here’s an interesting story that cropped up over at Ain’t It Cool News today that hints at another possible project in the works from everyone’s favourite cowboy director, Robert Rodriguez. But no, it’s not Sin City 2, or Barbarella, or Spy Kids 4… in fact, it’s not a movie at all. It’s a TV series that’s currently being shopped around to various networks, and I have to admit, if this thing actually sees the light of day, it could be very exciting indeed.
The show is called Women in Chains, and it is about life inside a female prison. However, this is not to be confused with Alan Ball’s American remake of Bad Girls which is apparently coming to HBO. Women in Chains deals not in realism, but rather, exploitation to the max. “Sadistic Guards, Cafeteria Hosedowns, Mud Wrestling, Violent Vendettas” are among the things promised. Need I say more? The series was created by Josh Miller and M.A. Fortin, but apparently Robert Rodriguez has signed on to produce and direct, and his main squeeze Rose McGowan will also star. How’s that for star power? Something tells me that a grindhouse-style TV series might not work out too well on a major network, but here’s to hoping one of the cable channels will bite. More on this as it develops…

Posted by ldyzmb on May 27th, 2008I have no patience for a director who indulges his girlfriend, to the detriment of his work. Guy Ritchie did it with Madonna, now Rodriguez is doing it with McGowan.
I smell failure.
