Monday Morning Box Office Report: May 19, 2008

As expected, Narnia conquered the box office this weekend, although it wasn’t by quite as large a margin as many were predicting. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian earned $56 million in its opening weekend, almost $10 million less than the first Narnia movie earned back in December 2005. So why the disappointing turn out (if you can call $56 mil disappointing)? Did Iron Man steal a good chunk of Narnia’s business? The comic book flick had another strong showing with $31 million in its third weekend, followed by What Happens in Vegas and Speed Racer. Baby Mama held down the #5 spot and wasn’t too far behind Speed Racer.

1. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian — $56.6M
2. Iron Man — $31.2M
3. What Happens in Vegas… — $13.8M
4. Speed Racer — $7.64M
5. Baby Mama — $4.59M
6. Made of Honor — $4.5M
7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall — $2.54M
8. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay — $1.8M
9. The Forbidden Kingdom — $1M
10. The Visitor — $687K

  1. Indiana Jones is going to wipe out the competition next week, i predict it will break spidermans opening weekend record of 150 mil.

  2. So true. Marvel made a good move by releasing Iron Man when they did. Indiana Jones is going to rule the box office for the next few weeks and Speed Racer is going to be completely run off the top 10. I don’t think Crystal Skull will be over $150 million but it could easily break the $100 million mark and make something like $60-70 million in it’s second week.

  3. Caspian was great.
