Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona Teaser Trailer Starring Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz

Woody Allen’s latest film Vicky Cristina Barcelona premieres at Cannes this week, and a teaser trailer for the flick has just hit the web. This movie finds Allen working with Scarlett Johansson yet again in a story about two American backpackers (Vicky, played by Rebecca Hall, and Christina, played by Johnansson) who travel to Spain and become romantically involved with a painter (Javier Bardem). There’s also a little matter of the painter’s jealous ex-girlfriend (Penelope Cruz).
The trailer hints at some hot sex scenes between Johannson and Bardem, and even a little bit of lesbian action between ScarJo and Penelope Cruz (not to mention rumours that there is also a ménage a trois scene somewhere in there). But hey, that’s neither here nor there… this is the latest and greatest masterpiece from Woody Allen! I haven’t seen many of Allen’s films but clearly a lot of people seem to think the quality of his output has dropped over the years. What do you think, are you looking forward to this? Vicky Cristina Barcelona hits select theatres on August 29th.

I’m always excited for more Woody Allen… I’ve even enjoyed most of his weaker stuff. I wish the trailer actually had some dialogue, but it doesn’t matter all that much… I’m gonna see this, regardless.
Posted by Derek on May 14th, 2008I’ve seen everything that Woody Allen has ever done except for last year’s Cassandra’s Dream. Is there a more prolific director? Would his films be any better if he wasn’t so prolific?
I’ve read various books on Woody and his films. I can’t say why film critics admire his work so much. Even though most critics think Woody is no longer relevant, Woody manages to sustain an artistic reputation.
I can relate to Woody because he suffers from anhedonia (an inability to experience pleasure) like I do.
With Scarlett Johansson as his muse, I won’t need any more incentive to continue watching Woody’s movies.
I guess he has a loyal enough following that guarantees his ability to obtain funds to continue filmmaking. Count me and Derek in as one of his crowd.
Posted by Reed Farrington on May 14th, 2008Interesting. Did you become a Woody fan due to Harve Bennett’s uncredited work on Hannah and Her Sisters?
Posted by Ben on May 15th, 2008I had no idea Harve Bennett was involved with Hannah and Her Sisters. Tell me he didn’t do a rewrite of Woody, Ben!
Despite an understandable preconception you might have from FilmJunk, my appreciation of Woody Allen has nothing to do with Star Trek. If Woody Allen ever wrote and directed a Star Trek movie… that would blow my mind. Unfortunately, we live in a much safer world than that.
I’ve always thought that Woody should write and direct a live-action Charlie Brown movie.
