Fraggle Rock Movie Gets a Director

It looks like the long-rumoured Fraggle Rock feature film is finally moving forward, with the addition of a director to the project this week. Cory Edwards will both write and direct the film; his previous credits include writer/director on Hoodwinked!, and writer on Hoodwinked 2 and Escape from Planet Earth.

I haven’t seen Hoodwinked, but it seemed like a pretty mediocre CG flick to me, so I can’t really say Edwards’ involvement particularly excites me. What does excite me, however, is the fact that even though the director is a guy with a background in 3D animation, the Fraggle Rock movie will be a mixture of live action and puppets! Nice. In keeping with the spirit of the TV series, it will also be part musical. Together with Jason Segel’s new Muppets movie, it looks like Jim Henson’s work is currently undergoing a bit of a resurgence. Maybe we’ll finally see that Dark Crystal sequel greenlit again too?

  1. While Hoodwinked looks pretty bad compared to other more high budget CGI movies, it is damn funny and much better than most of the stuff out there. It’s more adult oriented rather than some lame Shrek cash grabber.

I was always hoping that they could maybe update it with better animation one of those days and I do hope that the sequel is better made because the cheapness of the animation is what kept allot of people away.

  2. I am so excited about this! I grew up watching this show, and I can’t wait to see what happens with this movie!
I am a little wary about it, the more recent Muppet movies haven’t turned out very well. (Muppet’s Wizard of Oz leaps to mind) I’m just hoping that Cory Edwards does better with this.
