honestly, I fucking love Temple of Doom (as well as the other two)…every bit of it…let the bashing of me begin!!!
Posted by Bob the Slob on May 13th, 2008Remember that Jaws is rated G. Spielberg is one of those directors that gets the rating he wants. Those films were rated PG when they came out but I guess they are pushed up to PG 13 nowadays.
The Monster Squad was rated G as well and the kids call each other chicken shits, faggots and homos all the time. Times were simpler then and people didn’t lose their fucking minds when it came to a little onscreen violence or swearing.
Posted by swarez on May 13th, 2008I have a big heart for Temple of Doom. It (and Kate Capshaw) are crapped on more than is necessary. There are so many great elements to that film, and that opening dance#->Airplane sequence is sublimely put together and a constantly changing series of set-pieces. Wow!
Posted by Kurt on May 13th, 2008The action set-pieces are definitely the thing that still stands out for me about this movie. The opening scene in the night club and the mine cart chase are amazing. I was just surprised at how painful the dialogue is in this particular installment, and there was no chemistry at all between Harrison Ford and Kate Capshaw.
Posted by Sean on May 13th, 2008My problem with the Indiana Jones films is that they’ve become more and more reliant on set pieces. The first one wasn’t like that, sure it had the boulder scene but aside from that it didn’t have these giant roller coaster ride scenes that dominate the whole film. In the end the films feel like ideas for an amusement park ride or a computer games.
Posted by swarez on May 13th, 2008Yet, the second film (of which the mine cart sequence is overblown, but using the “Buster Keaton” analogy that Spielberg often uses as what he was going for) has that hilarious seduction scene with the fruit. While there is sort of a fight in the middle of it, I did like the interplay between Ford and Capshaw and their stubbornness and arrogance all roled up in the flirting. I thought that worked in the film better than the practically non-existence attempts at sexuality in either of the other two films.
Posted by Kurt on May 13th, 2008Kurt: I can see how on paper it might have sounded good, but on screen I thought it felt really clunky and awkward. But again, this is me watching the movie again for the first time in years, I had totally forgotten that most of that stuff was even in it.
Swarez: I think Temple of Doom is the most obvious in that way because there’s not enough stitching the various set pieces together.
Posted by Sean on May 13th, 2008In this type of fun-time adventure serial film, that foreplay scene is king. It has just the right tone, and I dig on the chemistry between the actors there.
Posted by Kurt on May 13th, 2008The bad guy rips some poor saps heart out, the movie is awesome, enough said.
Hmm. Monkey brains and live snakes.
Posted by Itchy-Finger on May 13th, 2008Temple of Doom wasn’t the first movie rated PG-13. It and Gremlins in ‘84 was what lead to the new rating. Red Dawn was actually the first movies released as PG-13.
Posted by Ben on May 14th, 2008The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
Posted by patrick on May 14th, 2008I’m sure all the IPod users don’t have a problem with the mp3 file of the show showing up correctly on their player, but it’s finally showing up correctly on my Zune and reading it as a podcast instead of some song. Finally! Whatever you did Sean, upload it the same way
Posted by Primal on May 16th, 2008Anyone know the tune they signed off with?

Posted by Sean on May 18th, 2008Oh I’l fight for it, this is my 5th post i the las 10 minutes. (I’ll try not to clutter the sections and i’ll try to keep the posts intellegent.
Posted by Drew on May 18th, 2008Just watched Speed Racer. I was a part of the very small minority who thought that the trailer looked really good when it first came out, but I stayed away from the movie because of the 30 something percent rating on rotten tomatoes. I’m glad I finally rented it though because I loved it. Everything just worked so well for me. I completely bought into the insanely surreal world that they created. My favorite Blu-ray release so far.
