Spaced U.S. Remake is Dead?

And just like that, a crisis has been averted. Fanboys and fangirls can resume their normal daily activities once again, because according to Nikki Finke on Deadline Hollywood Daily, the U.S. remake of Spaced has not been picked up by FOX for production. The pilot episode was reportedly given a thumbs down, despite the involvement of hot shot director McG. No word on whether or not the project could be shopped around to other networks, but at this point it seems that Spaced will be joining the ranks of The I.T. Crowd rather than The Office as a British TV series that American execs just couldn’t get their head around.

Obviously this is cause for celebration among fans of the original series, since Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright would not have had any involvement in the remake. Still, there’s a small part of me that was really curious to see how they would re-envision it, and I’m a little disappointed we won’t get to at least laugh at how they got it all wrong. But who knows, maybe that pilot episode will still find its way onto the internet one of these days.

  1. ah geeze…if fox turned it down it must’ve been awful…

Fox is the network with “So you think you can dance?”

  2. Actually, when you look at it that way, if Fox turned it down it was probably really good!

  3. No, If it was really good they would have picked it up and then canceled it way too early.

  4. I wasn’t going to watch it anyway, so this makes no difference to me. So long as I have my $50 set away for the US release of the original BBC version, I’m happy.
