It's too bad Speed Racer's not doing better, because it was better than I expected. Then again, if everyone was expecting it to be as good as I was expecting it to be, I guess I can understand why more people aren't going out of their way to see it. It's at #2 though, so I guess I couldn't ask for a whole lot more.

Criticizing (or complimenting) Red Belt on the quality of the martial arts is kinda like doing the same with the science-accuracy in Star Wars. It is nearly 100% irrelevant to what the movie is actually attempting to do. I can see the MMA crowd getting sorely disappointed simply from not understanding that this is not what the movie is about.

The Movie blog utterly HATES Red Belt with a passion.

I'm not surprised by Speed Racer's take this weekend.

I think Redbelt was only advertised on ESPN, which is exactly the wrong place to advertise a movie like this. The Mixed Martial Arts is somewhat of window dressing on the film, there is only the most minimal amount of fighting onscreen.

The film has a fair bit more of a GHOST-DOG angle to it, another film that failed miserably at the box-office because it only has a limited audience.

However, if you are into the Mamet vibe, this one should be seen before it evaporates from its wide release come Thursday.

As a rumination on how to be classically-honorable in a modern western society, it's a lean-and-mean film.

Oh, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is GOD.
