Marvel Sets Release Dates for Four New Movies Including Captain America and The Avengers

Clearly the success of Iron Man bodes well for the future of Marvel as an independent movie studio. This week they’ve announced plans to continue rolling along by setting some solid release dates for their next four projects. First up is Iron Man 2, currently slated for April 30, 2010, followed by Thor on June 4, 2010. Now comes the interesting part… a movie called The First Avenger: Captain America will hit theatres on May 6, 2011, and then, the big one that they’ve been hinting at, The Avengers two months later in July 2011. Are you excited?
Granted, these are all still a long way off, but at least comic book fans know that Marvel’s got their back for the next few years. Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man is also listed as being in development, with a release date TBA, and to be honest that is the one I am most excited about above all the others. So let the speculation begin… what will the line-up look like for an Avengers movie? Who do you want to see in it? And how long will it be until Marvel has completely exhausted all of the worthwhile characters in their catalogue?

Oh man.. I can’t look more than a couple weeks into the future, let alone years!
Posted by joe on May 5th, 2008I think a Captain America movie would be good. As for Thor, I’d like to see it, but I think it’ll be a harder sell than Iron Man. And The Avengers? I can’t help feeling that it’s a bad idea. I guess we’ll find out in 2011.
Posted by Rian on May 5th, 2008how can they possibly release an Avengers movie without everyone being pushed to the sidelines? those X-men movies weren’t bad but some perfectly good marvel characters like Cyclops, Storm were delegated awful supporting roles that gave next to 0 characterisation or history on the characters. Spidey 3 tried introducing 3 half-assed villains and turned out to be a dog’s breakfast.
