Hamlet 2 Trailer Starring Steve Coogan

A few months ago I remember hearing that one of the biggest bidding wars from this year’s Sundance Festival was over a movie called Hamlet 2 starring Steve Coogan. My first thought was something along the lines of… a bidding war over some boring, stuffy British take-off on Shakespeare? Really? But despite the misleading title, this movie actually appears to be anything but stuffy.
First of all, it was co-written by South Park writer Pam Brady, who also worked on Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s hilarious marionette comedy Team America: World Police. This kind of explains the story, which revolves around a high school drama teacher who writes a politically incorrect sequel to Hamlet, igniting a first amendment firestorm in Tucson, Arizona. Anyway, a red band trailer for the movie has just arrived online over on the official website and it definitely looks like it has potential. The movie co-stars Catherine Keener and David Arquette and hits select theatres on August 22nd. Check out the trailer via the link below (or if you don’t want to deal with the age verification BS, you can also watch it at FirstShowing.net and a few other sites around the web).

“Misleading title”? The title itself is a perfect joke-short, sweet and smart. Think about it this way: what would be your reaction if you read a blurb about an upcoming movie called Citizen Kane 2? Regardless I only needed to hear that Steve Coogan is attached to know I have high hopes for this.
Posted by Chuck on April 18th, 2008I will agree that the title is funny once you know what it’s about. But I’ve seen far too many lame re-imaginings of Shakespeare to have any mention of Hamlet in a movie title catch my attention right off the bat.
Posted by Sean on April 18th, 2008This movie doesn’t interest me one bit. A running gag about the same girl always getting hit with trash cans and slammed into walls? No thanks.
Posted by Rian on April 18th, 2008I dunno, that girl getting hit with a trash can was pretty funny. Plus the rest of this looks awesome.

I actually didn’t find it hard to deal with at all, I easily got past it just by putting in my dad’s name, i don’t even no why they do that stuff, it’s so easy to get past.
Posted by Drew on April 21st, 2008I think this will be a fantastic film. Pam Brady has a similar talent to the female comedy genius Tina Fey, and the fact that Fey’s best friend Amy Poehler (mispell?) is in it is enough of a reassurance of casting. Steven Coogan looks as if he’ll be able to bring justice to such a physically comedic role. I think we should give Brady the credit for trying to write a stupid physical comedy, a type of genre usually dominated by men. The fact that she has years with Trey and Matt under her belt is just a bonus. She hones Trey’s mastery of satiric comedy and I truly believe this will do wonders for her career. GOOD LUCK, PAM BRADY! I’ll be in the theaters for you! <3
