Batman: Gotham Knight Anime Trailer

As you may have heard, The Dark Knight is getting a special direct to DVD prequel called Batman: Gotham Knight, featuring six short anime films from various Japanese production houses. Although it was initially reported that Bruce Timm and Satoshi Kon would both be directing segments, it now looks as though this is not the case. Pretty much all of the names involved are first-time directors, although looking at the newly-released trailer, my enthusiasm for the project still stands.
I thought the concept behind The Animatrix was great, simply because if one particular short didn’t interest you, the next was only a few minutes away. The same would seem to hold true for Gotham Knight. Plus Batman is a character that lends himself well to a variety of different interpretations. Batman: Gotham Knight will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on July 8th, ten days before The Dark Knight opens in theatres. Check out the full trailer below.

I’m looking forward to this, especially since Kevin Conroy is providing the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Posted by Nuno on April 14th, 2008Totally agree Sean. I think Batman is going to play very well when viewed through the eyes of a number of different directors. I am not an anime fan, per se, but this looks absolutely fantastic. I am very psyched about this DVD. I think other movies and movie series’ can/could have benefit/ed from an anime treatment. Movies like Fight Club, Children of Men, and the Fifth Element. Movies that have a strong stylistic vision and one or more incredibly cool characters.
