New To Theatres This Weekend – Apr. 11, 2008

I don’t know why, but it feels like it’s been a very long time since there was anything worthwhile playing in theatres, at least in terms of major releases. The drought continues this week as we get another mediocre crop that includes the David Ayer-directed crime thriller Street Kings, a romantic comedy marketing itself as an indie dramedy in Smart People, and another terrible looking horror remake in Prom Night. In limited release we have the Ryan Reynolds film Chaos Theory and the documentary Young@Heart. Could a stinker like 21 actually take the box office three weeks in a row? All I’m saying is that I wouldn’t be surprised.

Whoa whoa whoa!
If Keanu gains a few pounds, he would look like Al Gore!
Anyone else see it?
Posted by Phil on April 11th, 2008He does have that same scowl. They should team up together to save us from ourselves and destroying our planet.
Al Gore: Everyone here needs to give up driving and flying, everyone but me.
Posted by Itchy-Finger on April 11th, 2008Keanu: THERE’S A BOMB ON THE BUS! DON’T GO BELOW 55 MPH!
Al Gore: Keanu, we want to stop the driving, to save our planet.
Keanu: DON’T STOP THE BUS! DON’T GO BELOW 55 MPH!
Al Gore: Keanu, calm down there is no bus. You are filling our Earth up with carbon dioxide, you are killing us. We should all stop breathing, it is the only solution.
Keanu: THERE IS NO SPOON!
I was kind of looking forward to smart people but thats probably just because i love Ellen Page.
“If Keanu gains a few pounds, he would look like Al Gore!”
Yeah I noticed, and it’s hilarious!

Posted by Phil on April 11th, 2008I’m gonna pickup “The 11th Hour”… it’s only $5 at BB. Other than that, it’s another catchup weekend with DVDs and I’ll re-watch No Country on bluray.
Posted by joe on April 11th, 2008Hopefully all these bad releases will boost There Will Be sales.
Posted by Mike on April 11th, 2008“Street Kings” isn’t a total stinker and Keanu is better than he’s been in years. Stop picking on the guy already.
“Young@Heart” is really good. Worth catching if it opens up near you. I hope no one takes this the wrong way but it’s a perfect movie to take mom to.
I wish “Chaos Theory” was opening up around here but alas, I’ll have to wait a little longer for my Reynolds fix.
By elimination, it looks like I’m watching “Smart People”.
At least “Iron Man” is only a few more weeks away.

Posted by Baychuk on April 12th, 2008I saw Street Kings this weekend. It was fairly mediocre, but it was still a good time at the theaters. A lot of known actors in this movie and many of the character introductions were cool. I’m with Marina when talking about Keanu, he was pretty good in this flick.
