Dolph Lundgren’s New Movie = Die Hard at a Rock Concert?

It’s been quite a few years now since we’ve seen Dolph Lundgren star in a movie that didn’t go direct to DVD. Back in the 80’s he was a staple of big action movies like Universal Soldier, The Punisher, I Come in Peace and of course Rocky IV, but when that style of macho movie eventually died out, he was left in the dust along with people like Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal. But now, with the success of recent sequels to action franchises like Die Hard and Rambo, could Lundgren’s career be back on the rise? Well quite honestly, probably not… but listen to the hilarious premise to his next movie, Command Performance.
Lundgren will star as the drummer for a Russian band who are the opening act for a major American rock group. During a performance in Moscow with the Russian premier in attendance, some terrorists break up the show, and wouldn’t you know it, the drummer also happens to be an ex-Marine, so he jumps into the fray. Lundgren describes the project as “Die Hard at a rock concert”.
He also had this to say: “I got the idea from Madonna… She did a concert for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin a few years ago.” He says that he plans to play the drums himself since he used to play when he was a kid. Taking a page out of Stallone’s book, Lundgren will also direct the film (his last few starring roles have also been in low budget movies that he directed). It may sound like cheesy direct to video material, but it has the same production company as Rambo behind it, so perhaps there is a chance it will get released theatrically? If it’s done right, I think this could be a pretty kick ass flick. All hail Lundgren!

Holy crap, I had no idea Dolph was still alive. I thought he went on a roid rage rampage back in 95′ and killed and ate all of his family members. It’s nice to see he is still around kicking it.

Posted by Phil on March 28th, 2008It sounds stupid, but hell, I’ll see it. I’m as nostalgic about 80’s action movies as the next guy, and the next guy must be pretty nostalgic based on the box office success of Live Free Or Die Hard, Rocky Balboa, and Rambo.
