New To Theatres This Weekend – March 21, 2008

Once again, it’s looking like a slow Easter weekend at the movies. Owen Wilson’s new comedy Drillbit Taylor is out, plus a remake of the Thai horror flick Shutter and a new comedy from Tyler Perry called Meet The Browns. Based on past experience, I’m going to guess that Tyler Perry will dominate the box office, but Drillbit Taylor does have Judd Apatow’s name on it so who knows. In limited release we have Zak Penn’s poker mockumentary The Grand, plus a breakdancing documentary called Planet B-Boy. If you get the chance, Run Fatboy Run isn’t a bad choice as far as romantic comedies go, in fact, I quite enjoyed it. Still a few weeks to go before we get into some decent new releases again though…

  1. Hmmmmm. “Shutter”….Joshua Jackson….good. Japanese ghost movie…..good. Reminiscent of the “Fatal Frame” games of PS2 and Xbox…..good. I’d see it.

  2. so basically i should keep my money and go to the library.

  3. ….Or catch Doomsday before it heads to DVD

  4. Shutter is originally Thai, and even though the remake is by a Japanese director.. I would not expect it to be similar to other J-horror just because of that.

I’ll catch a Doomsday matinée sometime next week during the week.

  5. ps. Shutter was a very good, and very scary flick though.. I definitely recommend the original, if the remake turns out bad.

  6. The original Shutter was quite effective with minimal use of special effects. The leads were quite good as well, why remake something that was good, especially with Dawson’s Creek.

It had elements similar to the Fatal Frame games. I would love to see a Fatal Frame movie though.. those games were FREAKY.
