No it was <a href="http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1120854_5,00.html" rel="nofollow">Hayter's</a> screenplay.

You might be confusing Gilliam's screenplay of Good Omens and Gaiman's and Pratchett's universal praise of that screenplay with the Watchmen one. Or hell, maybe he did say that about Gilliam's as well, but from what I recall Moore has been fairly against any Watchmen adaptation no matter what.

No, he said that about the Terry Gilliam screenplay that eventually didn't become anything in the 90s. He said it was as close as he could imagine anybody getting to Watchmen. It would be weird if he said the same about this script, and I highly doubt that he has read it. If you've read this somewhere, I'd love to read it and proven wrong though! That would be good news.

Moore has given the screenplay as much as an endorsement as you will probably get from him. Something to the like of whomever wrote it "is the closest I have seen to anyone getting Watchmen."

In anticipation of hatred from Jay, I will use his own defense when he hated Halloween based on the poster.

If these pictures came out and it was M. Night Shyamalan or Sam Mendes directing, I wouldn't be worried because I knew there was going to be a brain behind the decisions. When it's Zack Snyder, I know that there is not a brain behind them. He didn't luck into anything awesome.

to be honest Moore's opinion doesnt matter to me. sure he's a genius, but he's a bit of a nut - I mean he worships a Roman snake god named Glycon. I'll judge it for myself...

He has exactly said that. The only mention he has made of this film is mentioning that he received and signed the letter saying that he would have no responsibilities and no benefits associated with the project, and that he was happy that have this one behind him.

I think that Zack Snyder is getting way too much credit as well. If he actually thinks of himself as capable of the same level of genius in terms of making a satirical piece without any satire in it, practically redefining the worlds view on an entire artform, then he better deliver. Otherwise he should stick to the storyboards. He is a fucking colonic worm.

Maybe Film Junk can be the official home of the Watchmen backlash? In all honesty I don't care much about costumes. I'm more interested to see how the story translates.

I think what Rusty's saying is that Zack Snyder is trying to do the same thing for the current time period that Moore and Gibbons did back when the comic first came out. I think that might be giving Snyder a bit too much credit though.

In response to what Less Lee was saying above... I think Moore has already publicly condemned the movie and said he wants no part of it. I could be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that.

Well to be more precise, the characters were facsimilies of well known 60's characters (for instance Rorschach is The Question), and they purposely used a Golden Age style of illustration, though far more layered then ever seen before. That was what was considered so impressive, that Gibbons not only effectively blended Golden and Silver Age styles, but that he added depth to them as well.

But even besides that, those costumes should look like something found 50 years ago and they don't. They look like modern costumes. Ozymandias in particular looks absolutely ridiculous.
