Weird Web Wednesdays: Puppy Toss

I feel I should preface this week’s post with a warning… there is a debate over whether or not the puppy toss video is real, and personally I think it’s a very well-orcestrated hoax. However, if it is real, it is pretty damn disturbing. It’s also being pulled off YouTube rather quickly, so who knows how long this link will be valid for. Also this week, we mourn the loss of D&D creator Gary Gygax, marvel at the entertainment value of a ruined marriage on Moment of Truth, and discover the truth about the beginning of Sarah Silverman’s career in showbiz. Thanks to everyone who continues to send in videos… Weird Web Wednesday is growing every week!

It’s totally fake. Don’t even think twice about it.
Posted by Greg on March 5th, 2008Also…that skier had his leg amputated today.
Posted by Greg on March 5th, 2008What the hell is that Samurai Cop thing? That was awesome! And I do think that the little dog looks fake as hell.
Are we going to have 3 sweded videos for months and months now?
As usual, Rick Ashley rules the viral web. Great stuff.
Posted by Henrik on March 5th, 2008I agree that the puppy looks fake… mostly it was the whimpering sound that seemed dubbed in to me. Still, I was surprised by how many people actually believe it. And they claim there is a real investigation into the incident going on right now.
Posted by Sean on March 5th, 2008There is definitely an investigation going on, considering the video was circulating with what was claimed to be the marine’s address and phone number. Supposedly he and his extend family have been fielding death threats over the whole thing.
I can’t really say if it’s fake or not… it certainly appears real (though people point to some audio inconsistencies). But, after watching several marine-posted videos from Iraq and elsewhere, I wouldn’t put it past one of ‘em to do something like that.
Posted by Derek on March 5th, 2008I haven’t watched the video, but just because the audio sounds fake doesn’t really mean the video is. They might have added a sound effect in themselves thinking it made it funnier.
Posted by Jay C. on March 5th, 2008This is a good point, although the movement in the air looks a bit off too. I still believe it is fake but I can see arguments on both sides.
Some people say they wouldn’t put it past soldiers to do things like this out of boredom. On the other hand, I wouldn’t put it past them to orchestrate a big hoax out of boredom either.
The guy apparently has a MySpace page and posted this message, which makes it seem even more like they’re trying to provoke a reaction:
“I am really sorry for the whole puppy thing. I don’t know why people are so pissed. It was a FUCKING STRAY!!! Get the fuck over it! You know how many people I see get blown away on a regular basis?!?! Shit Man Not only the towle heads out here but my own friends!”
Where’s Baychuck when you need him?
Posted by Sean on March 5th, 2008Man the american army is a despicable organisation.
Posted by Henrik on March 5th, 2008The thing never moves, even when it is flying through the air. It’s fake.
Posted by Matt Gamble on March 5th, 2008For one, I don’t find a hoax involving throwing a puppy to its death to be at all funny. Animal cruelty is a huge hot button for me. Secondly, is anyone surprised at alleged cruelty of U.S. soldiers after seeing the pictures of Abu Gharib on Wired.com last week?
Posted by Less Lee on March 6th, 2008look, if the video is real then the guy is pretty stupid to do it, and post it. dont judge the entire military for the incident.
im a soldier, and it bothers me to see citizens say that our military is “dispicable”. we come here, and sacrifice so much for our county. im not here to start a pissing contest, however, all im trying to say is that our military depends on the support of our country. the bashing lowers the troops modivation.
bash the individule, and leave the rest of us out. who knows, the video can be real or fake. the truth will come out sooner or later. chain of command will take care of the rest. thanks
