NBC Announces Directors and Cast for Horror Anthology Series Fear Itself

Well in case you were wondering, Showtime’s Masters of Horror is now officially dead, and the torch has been passed to NBC, who have teamed up with Lionsgate to produce Mick Garris’ new horror anthology series Fear Itself. It seems like essentially the same concept, the main difference being that the show is no longer on a cable network — which means more viewers and less gore. Still, they have assembled some decent talent here once again, and I think horror fans will find Fear Itself gives plenty to look forward to.

Among the big names involved in the first 13 episodes are Darren Bousman, John Landis, Brad Anderson, Mary Harron, Ronny Yu and Stuart Gordon. Actors that have signed on to appear in episodes thus far include Brandon Routh, Elisabeth Moss, Eric Roberts, Cynthia Watros and Shiri Appleby. Part of me thinks this series could end up getting the shaft like ABC’s Masters of Science-Fiction, because these kinds of one-shot TV movies won’t be able to compete against other primetime heavy-hitters. Either way I’ll add it to my PVR recording list, even though I’ve still only ever seen a couple of episodes of Masters of Horror myself.

Check out a partial list of episodes and the talent involved after the jump.

  1. I liked the Masters of Horror series, mostly because of Imprint (even though it didn’t get shown on TV screens). There was another decent one by the writer of The Ring, I believe. It was about some guy who went crazy or possessed on his yacht.

I find some good (and bad) horror on the Sundance Channel sometimes.

  2. If Community was a movie I would go see it.

  3. I’d have preferred to just see Masters of Horror continue. This series won’t be able to pull off some of the stuff that it’s predecessor got away with on cable, which has me worried that all of the films will end up like crappy, low budget PG-13 teen horror movies. I’ll give it a shot though. If nothing else, I’m interested to see what Stuart Gordon has to contribute.
