Chuck Palaniuk’s Choke: 4 Movie Clips

We still have yet to see a trailer for Clark Gregg’s upcoming adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke, but four new clips from the movie that have recently turned up online courtesy of Collider.
I suppose it’s a bit unfair to compare this movie to David Fincher’s Fight Club, but watching these clips is a reminder that Choke has a much smaller budget and Gregg doesn’t come anywhere near the same level of visual flair as Fincher. It also seems to play more like a straight up comedy, skipping over some of the darker elements of Palahniuk’s writing in favour of goofy laughs. I don’t want to judge this too harshly though, as I like Sam Rockwell a lot and in the context of the whole film, I’m hoping these scenes will play out a bit better. Watch the four clips below and see what you think.
Choke premiered at Sundance and will also be playing at SXSW next month. Fox Searchlight will officially release the movie in theatres this August.

Damn. My Dad got this book for me back when I was a premed (I think he thought it might have something to do with that). I read it on a 24 hour bus trip from Arcata CA to Riverside CA two days after 9-11. So … sure I’ll go see this Rockwell is the one to go with for this dirtbag.
Posted by Ian on February 26th, 2008I haven’t read this particular Palahniuk book, and these clips did not make a good first impression on me. Based on what these scenes show I’m not terribly excited to see Choke. Chances are I still will check it out based on the writer of the source material alone, but I wouldn’t say that this is on my must-see list right now.
Posted by Rian on February 27th, 2008Choke was played @ Seattle’s film festival last week. I read the book when It came out. A friend of mine saw it at SFF and told me that there were a lot of changes in the movie. Of course I am still going to see it, but I am afraid I will be disappointed. Ya just gotta keep in mind that books are always better than the movie version~~
