Big Stan Trailer Starring Rob Schneider

Poor Rob Schneider. He seemed like a pretty funny guy back when he was on Saturday Night Live in the early 90’s, but ever since he made the jump to the big screen, it hasn’t quite panned out for him. If his buddy Adam Sandler wasn’t keeping him employed, I think he’d probably be flipping burgers or something by now. A string of cringe-worthy comedies from Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and The Animal to The Hot Chick and The Benchwarmers have left most people staying far away whenever they see his name attached to a project.
And yet, the man continues to work. Someone has decided to give him yet another headlining gig, and this time not only is he starring, but he’s also directing! Big Stan is about a con man (Schneider) who gets busted for fraud and sent to prison. Fearful of what might happen to him while behind bars, he enlists the help of a martial arts expert (David Carradine) to teach him self-defense. Do you see where this is going? Gay jokes and racial stereotypes are always a good time. The movie is written by Josh Lieb (NewsRadio) and hits theatres on April 25th. You can check out the trailer below, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Is Rob Schneider doing a Paul Giamatti impression to turn his career around? He could not look and sound more like him. Also, would David Carradine have been cast as Bill if he had been in this? Would he have been cast in this if he wasn’t in Kill Bill? Does anyone care?
The last clip was actually funny though. This trailer didn’t look as bad as the one for the Tina Fey movie.
The only film I have seen with Rob Schneider is The Hot Chick. Anna Faris made sure the title wasn’t misleading (yowzer), but I didn’t laugh once. I’ll stay away from this.

It took the French to elevate Jerry Lewis to iconic status.
I think Canada should step up and be the first nation to recognize Rob Schneider. Unfortunately, in Canada, the word Schneider is highly associated with a company that makes weiners, so it might be difficult in the minds of Canadians to switch the association of Schneider with sausage product to top-notch ham.
Posted by Reed Farrington on February 19th, 2008Rob Schneider is a really funny guy that needs better scripts to work with. Also, his best movie to date was the first Deuce Bigelow; that was a really good comedy and that’s the one you should see before bashing him. The Animal and everything after were all very very weak.
That being said, the trailer actually looks pretty funny. This might be the first decent Rob Schneider movie in a while.
Also, humour is subjective. What looks funny to someone may not look the same to somebody else.
Posted by cib3k on February 20th, 2008I have seen Deuce Bigalow, and I hated it. But you’re absolutely right, humour is a subjective thing. It just so happens that movie is also one of Reed Farrington’s favourite comedies, alongside Dude Where’s My Car.
As I said, Rob Schneider has some funny characters on SNL and seems like he could still do something cool with the right people involved.
