The Mighty Boosh Movie: BBC Comedy Series Headed to Big Screen

Most of us here in North America still have not heard of The Mighty Boosh yet, but if you want to keep on top of the latest stuff coming out of the U.K., you might want to look into it. This is a BBC comedy series about two friends who go off on surreal adventures in a variety of fantastical locales, often involving musical numbers. It’s been a big hit across the pond, and now a movie is reportedly in the works as well.
Noel Fielding previously played Richmond on The I.T. Crowd, while Julian Barratt appeared on a show called Asylum alongside Spaced stars Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson. I really can’t comment much on The Mighty Boosh movie since I’ve only seen a few clips here and there, but it does seem to capture a bit of that wacky Tim and Eric sensibility, only with (slightly) more structure to it. Any Mighty Boosh fans out there? Can a feature length movie work with this kind of material? Fielding and Barratt are said to be working on a script now, with plans to start shooting early next year.

probably wont work – a lot of fans have rubbished the 3rd series for recycling old jokes from the previous 2. Was pretty funny, but now it really is by-the-numbers
Posted by monkeygeneral on February 15th, 2008The Boosh is great, and if they hit it right, it’ll be fantastic and original. When they’re on, they’re really on, but unfortunately, when they miss, they miss big. I like that though, they never are afraid of falling on their faces. Their ability to do absurdity well is a rare thing.
Posted by Matt Gourley on February 15th, 2008I am a fan. When I saw the headline I thought the idea of a Boosh movie would be great. But then I got to thinking about it more. The TV show is great and unique but even as much as I liked it, there were some episodes that I just couldn’t hang with for 30 min. And I love the absurd. So unless it is perfection, unifying all their best ideas and executed well, it won’t keep people interested for 90 min.
What I’d really want to see is a “Darkplace” movie.
Posted by Brett on February 15th, 2008im one of the biggest boosh fans going, and feel that a movie would be amazing.
Posted by dick on February 20th, 2008but as the show gets bigger, the shows become less amazing.
the real gold is sealed in the radio series.
I AM PROBZ THE BIGGEST BOOSH FAN LIVING!
Posted by sophieeeee on February 28th, 2008i think that a movie is a good idea for them. noel fielding told the sun that he had always wanted the mighty boosh to go onto the big screen.
i’m looking forward to it!
series one was the best though
This should be brilliant. It seems they have been working towards this for a long time so they should hit the boosh spot with this.
Posted by vinny on March 5th, 2008IM OLD GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEG!!!
When i heard about the boosh making a movie i screamed so loud! I cannot wait to see this – it should be hilarious. I can’t wait to see them live in decmber, ha yes you are all jealous
Posted by Kelly on March 7th, 2008Main problem with the Boosh planning a movie. The way to enjoy the boosh to its full potential is to be wasted. Not too easy when your going to the cinema.
I dont rubbish the idea though, i welcome it. Although series 3 went a bit more mainstream i still enjoyed it 1000 times more than any other shows out there.
Also cant wait to see them live in december
Posted by Mason on March 25th, 2008For me, and most of the other Boosh fans out there, Noel and Julian never fail to impress. All three series have been fantastic (i don’t think any was better than another, they were just varied), the radio show was great, as was the live show so i think a Boosh movie would be excellent!
Posted by KatNoir on March 28th, 2008Can’t wait for it to come out and i’ll definitely be queing up to see it!
Long live the boosh!!!!!!!!
The boosh could do anything. they are the NUMBER ONE SHOW and dont you forget it !!! They have acheived 3 series, a pilot, a documentary, a festival and a live show !!!! its all too much of a coincidence for them NOT to have a movie !!!! I love them all and will be showing them ALL my support. I am NUMBER ONE FAN !!! and I have got all their birthdays on my calendar !!! Lol !!!
Posted by Emzie Boosher on May 13th, 2008CANT WAIT !!!!!!!!!
And theres a 4th series coming after the film
Posted by Emzie Boosher on May 13th, 2008EEEEK IM SO EXCITED!!!
Posted by lil on June 7th, 2008there is no way that those geniuses could get it wrong!!! what else is there to say but YAAAAY!!!
When people first saw Noel and Julian’s unique brand of comedy when they did stand up most people thought it impossible to transfer to radio. But it was a hit. Then they said the same about a TV show, and then again about transferring all the new material and style back to the stage for the live show. Yet the Boosh have defied them all and come out tops, so although i have reservations about how on earth a boosh movie will work i hope they will prove us all wrong again. I can’t wait for the movie, even if the ‘cult’ hit looks like it’s now just chasing the cash.
Posted by BooshalotBeth on June 9th, 2008i think a movie would be amazing, those guys are geniouses, how could they possibly get it wrong
Posted by Coly on June 23rd, 2008I’m seeing them live in October, Jelous lol XD yey
If they do come out with a movie… They better start putting out the bloody series in north america, I knew a while back it used to be on bbc america but it isn’t anymore, I was able to watch most of all three series and I though that stuff was funny as hell and it’s one of my favorite shows. If they do come out with a movie i really hope they sell it in america because I’m gonna end up dying to see it, and America doesn’t really have the European format on our electronics no do we?
Posted by melovesmenaboo on June 28th, 2008Hell I’ll move to the damn UK if I have to… I’m going to Ireland to visit my cousin anyway XD
Posted by melovesmenaboo on June 28th, 2008The boosh is the funniest thing in the entire world, i live in australia and so i started out watching boosh on youtube and then they brought to our ABC shop on dvd. It’s so so funny, same with the i’t crowd and Nathan barley (same crew of dudes)
Posted by zac01 on June 30th, 2008I’ve got a MANGINA!!!
I’m from the US and am a big Boosh fan….not sure how I feel about a movie, though. Maybe it WOULD be amazing…but after series 3, I have my doubts. The show is getting increasingly un-funny…
But if a film did come out, I would TOTALLY see it!
Posted by Megan on July 5th, 2008I’m definitely going to go see the movie when it comes out. At least three times. Noel and Julian are geniuses!
Australia is suffering from a severe lack of The Mighty Boosh. SBS used to show it on TV, but after series two, they stopped. Apparently they’re not going to show series three. And all we have are the DVDs for the three series, that’s it. Nothing else.
How can they do this to us?
This is an outrage!!!
Posted by Michelle on August 17th, 2008Michelle, SBS is going to start screening the 3rd series of The Mighty Boosh – August 25, Monday 2008 at 8:55pm.
Posted by Corey on August 21st, 2008a movie will work spectacularly. it will both allow for vince and howard to fully explore the worlds available to them, and also newe interaction with other actors and other characters.
Posted by Chris on September 15th, 2008it will be awesome!!
and season 3 was epic.
I don’t think series 3 isn’t funny… yeah it’s different to the others but jeez I don’t think you could ever call it ‘mainstream’.
Loyal to the Boosh. To the end.
Posted by Christina on September 23rd, 2008I think a Boosh movie will be genius!
A whole movie full of Noel? How could it possibly go wrong?
Seeing them in December, woop, love the Boosh!

I am one of the biggest boosh fans ever and ive spoke to noel and julian they are really nice and i have said that the fans would love a movie.
.
Posted by BooshBoy on December 1st, 2008i even give them some of my ideas for example instead of a flat a shop or a zoo a circus which is owned by the hitcher i think thats a good idea and i came up with it but they should use that for a series for the movie it should be a war between the hitcher on zooberon and the boosh on earth all the shamen and vince and howard having to chose their sides.
please reply what you think and me and noal are buds now
the boosh is the best and it wiill be a mad movieee!!!!!!!
.. i might just add noel is freaken hot!
Posted by celia on December 10th, 2008what>??? i have read stax of reviews saying that season three wasnt as good but jeez give them a break!
Posted by boosh on January 8th, 2009i loved all three seasons and i would say their all FABULOUS…and a movie would be even better.. it sucks cause were i live they dont tour… apparently their budget was majorly stretched when they created season three so i dont think it was just their fault… but besides all that…
MAKE A MOVIE!!!… lol
of course the boosh will work on the big screen, noel was complaining about not having enough time to put all their ideas in!!
series 3 is amazing!! if you dont appreciate series 3 your not a true follower of the boosh!!
dont think its american humour tho, they wont appreciate it.
i love julian!!!!
Posted by saoirse cowan on January 27th, 2009hey man I’m American and I love the Boosh! They’re comedic geniuses! All my American friends love them too!
Posted by BoBo on February 3rd, 2009Boosh should get a series 4, this time on BBC 1 ffs! A movie is starting to look a distant possibility sadly, I’d love it but it’s looking less likely. And how dare anyone say the Boosh wares out over time! It’s an OUTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!!! I hope the film (if made) is as good as their last live show. I as at one, it was brilliant. Americans should see it, it’s going to adult swim in March/April.
Posted by Phil on February 7th, 2009aaaahhhhh this will be the greatest om in love with the mighty boosh i have the first 2 serieses and ive seen the 3rd i think i would be great i would deffinately go and see it. I AM SAND STORM PREPARE FOR A CHAFING. I AM NO1 FAN
Posted by louise on February 8th, 2009I’m HUGE fan, I think making a mighty boosh movie is a fantastic idea. people didn’t think it would work on t.v from theate, but it did, didn’t. so why not a movie aswell then you have pritty much covered it all.
Yay can’t wait xx xD
Posted by sam on February 14th, 2009Oh they should do a music video aswell then they have covered it all. lol xD
Posted by sam on February 14th, 2009what the hell that is the strangest thing ever it is stupider than when the cheese monkey attacked the killer peas and the mighty boosh is a great show and it would be great if they do a movie weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Posted by cheese on February 16th, 2009cheese your almost as stupid a ha but all i can say is that the mighty boosh is boring and you should listen to gay bar
Posted by bret hogarth on February 16th, 2009Can’t wait for this, if they do it
Posted by james on March 5th, 2009It will definately work for a film. Noel and Julian are always saying they have too much stuff and have to cut so much out of the tv show. Each series has gotten better and better, contrary to what some doughnuts say. CAN’T WAIT FOR 2010!!
Posted by dominique on April 12th, 2009Noel and Julian have wanted a movie from the beginning so I’m glad it’s being made. The script is being written and is bound to be a huge success. I believe all three of the series’ were great and the live shows were hilarious. Apparently it’s going to be coming out in 2010. Personally I can’t wait for it. Also there are plans for S4.
I don’t think true Boosh fans would say that S3 was rubbish. If you do you are a disgrace to the Boosh.
They have plans to make a name for themselves out in the U.S too.
Posted by Sephy Noir on May 9th, 2009To be honest, I would rather they do a fourth season first. If they do a movie, it will likely not reach the US (where I live), whereas if they did a fourth season I could at least watch it online.
A movie would be great though, if I ever got the chance to see it
I think the Boosh would do just fine on the big screen.
Posted by Stephanie Lynn on May 13th, 2009Bring it! The Boosh boys can do anything.
They are the hardest working troupe in show biz!
They have tapped into an infinite well of imagination, music and visuals. The show is a jazz fusion in which they seem to effortlessly combine elements of circus, vaudeville, freak shows, animation, stand up, sit-com, glam rock, The Monkees, The Banana Splits, children’s shows, buddy movies, road movies, slap stick, Legend of Boggy Creek, Fredde Kruger, magic shows, Weird Al, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Dali, and even Annie Sprinkle. It’s led by two of the most exciting and engaging creative personalities to have splashed onto the entertainment scene in a long time.
The creators are charismatic, charming, intelligent and gorgeous (tho Julian Barratt plays beneath his attractiveness as Howard Moon). If nothing else, Noel Fielding will continue to be a teen idol and I suspect, in America, a gay icon. Who knows what forces they have yet to unleash upon an unsuspecting public. Just hang onto the handle bars. We’re on a great ride. I hope they tour America too!
Posted by Grand Eclectus on May 28th, 2009“Bouncy Castles are genius!”
I absolutely adore Julian and Noel and I think their movie will be more interesting than the stuff the Hollywood cookie cutter tosses our way
Posted by evaparamore on June 7th, 2009Noel and Julian are amazing and Im sure the movie will be amazing as well. I CANT WAIT!!!! And Noel is a hottie!
Posted by jessica on July 20th, 2009I CANNOT WAAAAAIT
All three of the series are fantastic and I absolutely love The Mighty Boosh . . . I have every faith in this film because writing a series is hard cos there needs to be loads of ideas, whereas a film just needs one great storyline, much like their best episodes. So think about it, if its a film they should have all the things that make the Boosh great – great ideas, comedy, funny songs, weird creatures, surreal places and crimping
And anyway, they have a very loyal fanbase who will love it whatever happens XOXOXOXOXOX
Posted by RosieeeBooshFan :) on September 10th, 2009A wondrous idea, and I hopes we can all rebel in celestial halluciogenic blissful joy at the might magnanimously mellifluous many series of the mighty boosh against them mindless drabble who don’t get the prodigal genius of the boosh, as funny doesn’t begin to describe it’s chaotic universe of ideas, so stop being so critical sceptical contrary and perverse and stop listening to reason, its mundanity is all a pile of horse’s brown bum plop anyway
Posted by mister twister on September 19th, 2009I am hungry for some more Boosh, so bring on the movie!
For all you North Americans out there, the tech is different for DVD formats from the UK and the series is never played over here at all, but never fear, you can still get the digital copies from sites like Itunes and whatnot.
Posted by Jbob on September 21st, 2009there are no clips of the mighty boosh movie as it hasnt been created. personaly i think a film cannot be acheived as the commedy style of the boosh is very much a cult thing. Also really quite sure that americans wont really understand it.
Posted by Akuba on September 23rd, 2009The Mighty Boosh is genius! and the film will be well wicked! Vince is a God amongst men and so, unserprisingly, is Noel Fielding. I absolutly can’t wait for the film!
Posted by Kimberly on November 5th, 2009I think this will be very good mighty boosh are awesome even thou im in australia basically everyone i know are fans or herd of it the film will be great on the big screen hope it comes out end of 2010 i really cant wait 2 see it!
Posted by Jonathon on November 14th, 2009As long as Old Gregg, Milky Joe and The Spirit Of Jazz are in it, I’m happy
Posted by Brev on December 31st, 2009i love the mighty boosh i even went to see them live in Manchester i hope they keep up the great work

Posted by Raven on January 1st, 2010I had watched some eps online and thought it was good, bought the box set on Boxing Day and its kicking my ass, so many awesome one liners.
Bob Fossil is one of the greatest non sequitor machines of all time. “The Slim Mover”, “continue, pumpkin”, “The Grey Man With the Extra Leg”
awesome.
Posted by Goon on January 1st, 2010HOW CAN THE BOOSH BOYS GET IT WRONG???
Yeah, I admit they have recycled a couple of jokes here and there, but it will always make me crack up. All of the series are fantastic, and if you dont agree then your just a SLAG…
Noel is GOD
Posted by BOOSHIEJUNKIE on February 26th, 2010I think that a Boosh film would be awesome! Although I have to agree that show has become worse and worse over time. Series three is nothing compared to the gold on series 1! I really wish they would go back to the zoo-niverse!
Posted by Hayley on March 2nd, 2010I have to admit that as much I love them, the more famous they become the more worse the comedy becomes. The festival they tried to hold was TERRIBLE and was a real fail. I think now they are really pushing it for the big time and I think the worst thing in the world would be if they went to the US or tried it in Hollywood.
i disagree series 1 was my least favourite as over time in that series became repedative, series 2 and 3 are the best ones i think that its the song that really keep me watching so i am looking forward to the album they are going to be releasing but hopefully with the movie they wont stray from theyre great alternative and wacky things they do oh so well and go to mainstream im really really really looking forward to the movie
Posted by izzzzzzy on April 12th, 2010OMG i love the idea of a mighty boosh movie, the mighty boosh live future saliors tour was brill and i think a movie could really work! it would be like watching a really long episode! I hope all the classic characters like Old gregg, Ruddie and Spider and Elenore are in it
YAY!!
Posted by Lizzie Hall on April 16th, 2010I adore the Mighty Boosh – I know all series word for word, I have the audio radio series to listen to on long drives and me and my boyfriend have constant quote offs. But I am one of those fans that got in to Boosh-watching at 2am on BBC3 back in 2004/5 and feel like it is ‘mine’ and the thought of it having the ‘Hollywood Treatment’ – though I wish all the boosh boys success – does make my skin crawl a bit. I don’t want the world and his wife to know about the crazy boosh world, I want it to be for the insomniacs and weirdos forever. Wishful thinking I think coz the genius of the Boosh cannot be contained…
Posted by Harri Ducky on May 10th, 2010I am one of the biggest boosh fans out there. I can easily say it is my all time favourite show. And the idea they will be creating a movie could not make me happier! I wholeheatedly agree that the idea of the mighty boosh becomeing largely popular culture is terrible nonetheless. If there was a way to make the movie without the movie being popular it would be the best of both worlds. I think it could work, as the live dvd’s have worked well and they are movie length it just depends on the way noel and julian choose to write it. I really hope the movie happens, and the brilliance of boosh will shine through no matter what!!!!
Posted by Em on July 1st, 2010THE BOOSH IS AMAZING.
Posted by hannah on July 29th, 2010i’m not sure if it can work as a full length movie but we will see
I LOVE THE BOOSH!!! It’s a really awesome tv show, and the live shows are great, and I’m excited about the movie, don’t get me wrong, but… I think that the show might seem a bit overblown in a movie. It sort of gets rid of that feeling that it’s small, and if it for whatever reason it fails, it might turn people away from the Boosh forever… It’s all a matter of time.
Posted by Jessica on August 8th, 2010They aren’t Monty Python’s flying circus, but I bet they can do it. I do however wonder if it will even be screened in the US due to the fact that it only has underground popularity.
Posted by durboosh on September 1st, 2010The first comment “monkey general” you slag, the recycled jokes are what makes up the epicness of the third series fo’sure….
so if you actully have the lack of braincells to put down the The mighty boosh then you sir, are in a hubba bubba nightmare!
