I’m a big fan of the original series from the ’60s, and am pretty pumped to see what JJ Abrams does with it. I may end up hating it, but I’m glad to see someone out there trying to inject some new life into this series. Simon Pegg as Scotty alone might be the price of admission. Will Nick Frost have a cameo?

J.J. Abrams is the sole reason I would see this movie. I’ve seen three Star Trek movies – Generations, First Contact and Nemesis. Generations was pretty awful. An iconic character like Captain Kirk deserves a much better death scene. First Contact was pretty good, I thought. James Cromwell was good and the Borg are kinda cool. Nemesis – even though I’m not a Star Trek fan – didn’t feel like Star Trek to me. Hopefully the delay will give Abrams the time to do some re-shooting for some scenes, which is something he wanted to do during the writer’s strike, but wasn’t able to.

To tell you the truth, the more time they have to work on this, the better it could very well be. I may not be a fan of the show or characters…but hey…a good movie is a good movie.

Straight to DVD wouldn’t do me any favours. This needs a theatrical release and some great reviews and when it hits DVD in the winter of 2009…could be a good Christmas.

With the delay, at least Abrams won’t be able to say that he didn’t have enough time to finish the film the way he wanted. Robert Wise gave this excuse for The Motion Picture (TMP). Even the last release of TMP with redone effects and re-editing didn’t improve it much IMO.

I don’t mind the delay.

In fact, I wouldn’t mind if the new movie bypassed theatres and became a straight to DVD release. (This would probably be highly amusing to Greg.)

And I need more than a hug.

This is good news. Christmas will not be ruined this year. If we’re lucky we could have a few more major delays until the project is shelved.
