Street Kings Trailer Starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker

As I was watching the trailer for Street Kings, the first thought that crossed my mind was that it looked exactly like Harsh Times. It was no surprise then, to find out that the movie is directed by David Ayer, who wrote and directed Harsh Times, and who also wrote the screenplays for Training Day, S.W.A.T. and Dark Blue. Clearly this guy has a thing for gritty cop movies. The surprising thing is that he didn’t write Street Kings himself; in fact, it was penned by James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia) Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit, Equilibrium), and Jamie Moss (nadda).

Although the trailer is almost comedic with its bad ass hip-hop soundtrack (it also stars Common and The Game), I do like Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, and there’s a part of me that thinks there could be an enjoyable flick here. Then again, I said the same thing about Harsh Times and I still haven’t actually seen that. Plus I hated Training Day. Either way, peep the trailer below and decide for yourself if you dig the Street Kings vibe. Street Kings hits theatres on April 11th.

  1. Definitely check out Harsh Times. I liked it better than Training Day, even if the performances weren’t as fierce.

  2. Anything written by James Ellroy is worth reading so I’m looking forward to this. Plus Keanu Reeves is always good value in his action man role. It didn’t look fantastic from the trailer but I’ll give it a go. Also, I’d have to agree with Sean on Training Day. I didn’t see why people raved so much about it apart from Denzel Washington’s performance.

  3. Harsh Times is a great movie. Bale and Rodriguez are both really good in it. I had a particular connection with the movie as I know someone who returned from Iraq and WAS Christian Bale’s character in this movie, but everyone I’ve recommended it to has liked it thus far.

I like Keanu in roles like this, but I’m more interested in seeing what Chris Evans is like in the film. I’ve been dying for another dramatic performance from him since I saw Sunshine.

  4. Here’s a better and much longer trailer on the International Street Kings Official website. Check it out! http://www.foxinternational.com/streetkings/
