Edgar Ramirez is Pablo Escobar?

We’ve previously posted about the two competing biopics that are currently in development based on the life of ruthless drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar (one will be directed by Joe “Smokin’ Aces” Carnahan, while the other will be handled by Antoine “Training Day” Fuqua). We’ve also previously joked about the casting of a certain Vincent Chase in the lead role, because as many people know, a similar movie was involved in the fictional world of HBO’s comedy series Entourage. However, it now looks like we may have our first unofficial casting announcement for the role of Pablo Escobar in a real-life production.
In a recent interview with Collider, Edgar Ramirez revealed that he is the frontrunner to star in Fuqua’s version of the story, simply titled Escobar. Who is Edgar Ramirez? Well, you may have seen him as Choco in Tony Scott’s Domino, and he also had roles in The Bourne Ultimatum and the upcoming Vantage Point. Next he will appear in Stephen Soderbergh’s Guerilla. Clearly he is an up and coming actor, and he seems like a good choice, although I don’t have much to base that opinion on at this point.
Ramirez had this to say about the possibility of playing Escobar: “It would be a great challenge and it would be a great responsibility to historyâ€â€of contemporary historyâ€â€in my region. We’re talking about a character who really definitely changed the face of a whole country and the face of a whole region, and a character filled with contradictions. A character who for half of his nation he represented hope and emancipation for the other half represented horror, terror and desperation, so it would be quite a challenge and something very interesting to get involved with.”
