Film Junk Weekend Wrap-Up: Jan. 27, 2008

There’s little question that the biggest news story of the week was the passing of Heath Ledger, which completely overshadowed the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominees. I think the thing that really struck people the most about his death was the fact that he didn’t seem to be the kind of guy who would live recklessly, and also the fact that he was still far from reaching the peak of his career (his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight would have been probably his highest profile role to date). With questions still remaining about the cause of death, we are now seeing right wing publicity seekers trying to cash in on his death by proclaiming that they will protest his funeral and idiotic things of that nature. What a shame. How about we just let the poor guy rest in peace?

  1. “right wing publicity seekers”

    - Just to be clear, it’s not like these people are good natured republicans. This is a sick, hate mongering church group that although claim to be baptist, are not recognized by any organization as such.

Furthermore, these guys picket funerals of American troops killed in Iraq because they think it is God’s punishment because America is a “gay nation.” This is far from a right wing practice. This is a looney tunes practice. Most “right-wingers” think these people should be done away with. And I happen to agree.

  2. “This is far from a right wing practice.”

There are leftists in the country that ban the word ‘gun’ from class reading lists and censor porn, etc - but being for censorship is not a ‘left wing practice’.

As such I have no problem with seans description. the Phelps clan are most definitely right wing, regardless of the fact that most right wingers would not be proud of them.
