Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows To Be Split In Two?

There’s been all kinds of speculation lately about who might direct the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In fact, it seems like people are more interested in this film than Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is coming out later this year. It could have something to do with the fact that Guillermo Del Toro has thrown his hat into the ring and mentioned that he’d be very interested in helming it, or it could just be because it’s the finale, and as such, people are expecting big things from it.
Well, as it turns out, the finale might end up being something even bigger than we could have guessed. There are reports that Warner Brothers are seriously considering dividing up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two films. According to a source quoted in British paper The Mail on Sunday, “There’s so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a Harry Potter movie possibly being split up, and in fact, a lot of fans complained that the last few movies have excised too many important scenes from the books. But could they really be serious this time? Could the announcement of two movies based on The Hobbit have anything to do with it? In theory, I agree that if there’s enough material for two films, they shouldn’t compress it. However, my thoughts on the Harry Potter franchise (not having read the books, mind you) is that the main story arc is taking forever to get to its conclusion. Do I really want to sit through three more movies instead of two? Not really. Make no mistake, adapting books is a pretty delicate task, and I am curious to see what solution they come up with in the end.

I think that the last book definitely has a chance to be split in two, because the studio will sell twice as many tickets that way, and it gives them another year with a Harry Potter movie on their cap.
However, I also think it might be a good idea. The movies have been getting worse and worse, because they have been cramming all of the plot elements in there, losing alot of the heart that the characters do have in the books. It would be good if they split the last one into two movies, and tried and get some of that back in there. It would probably never happen though, the focus would be on expanding the action scenes and the flashy stuff to make it more exciting. Definitely if they get Guillermo Del Toro on board, I can totally see the production design completely upstaging any of the characters in it, which would be a shame, but is probably inevitable.

I agree that the movies are kind of bad since the fourth one, in story. The cinematography, acting, etc has never been better… but the story just flies by, and if you’ve read the book you can be dizzied by remembering it on-the-fly as it move by so fast, and confused if you didnt’ read it.
