Alvin and the Chipmunks Sequel to Star The Chipettes?

Man, I’ve really gotta get into the business of making family movies. Basically, you can churn out crap like Alvin & The Chipmunks and still rake in a boatload of cash… no questions asked. You start to realize why people like Jason Lee are signing on for these projects, even if it might earn them a Razzie or two.
Alvin & The Chipmunks has quickly and quietly climbed to the #11 spot on the list of top grossing movies for 2007 (just ahead of National Treasure: Book of Secrets). So far it has made over $240 million worldwide, and it’s still climbing. With crazy numbers like that, you know that Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 can’t be far off.
MTV Movies Blog recently learned from one of the film’s producers that a sequel is indeed in the planning stages, and that it may involve the Chipmunks’ female counterparts, The Chipettes (Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor). “We just want to take the chipmunks where no other chipmunk has ever gone before,” says Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., producer and son of the Chipmunks creator. Make no mistake, this is groundbreaking stuff, and considering that the Garfield movie also had a sequel, I’d say there’s about a 100% chance this will come to fruition within the next year or two. Exciting times, my friends.

When I was a kid I used to love the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon, and I even recently bought a copy of the old 2D animated Chipmunks movie dirt-cheap at Wal-Mart based solely on it’s nostalgic value, but I want nothing to do with this movie. I can’t fault anyone for making a film with no other purpose than for kids to flock to it in droves, but after I saw the Garfield movie a few years ago, I can’t bring myself to go near these updates of my old favorites.
Posted by Rian on January 10th, 2008But…is the movie good? Jason Lee is pretty cool, maybe this works?
Posted by Phil on January 12th, 2008I thought the same thing as Rian originally. But some of my friends said it was funny. So, I decided to see it…and I fell in love. It’s not a big blockbuster movie like I Am Legend or Lord of the Rings. But it is a very cute movie. It brought back the memories of my favorite cartoon. Yes, their music and style is very updated, but it works. Even there famous song “Witch Doctor” works as a hip hop tune. I am excited about the new movie. Especially about the Chipettes making an appearance. They rock! ^_^
Posted by Bekah on January 14th, 2008i saw the movie, it is very entertaining, i can see why they r planning a sequel. i give it 5 stars, and thats a high rating 4 me!
Posted by Maddy on February 23rd, 2008hey i really think thats awesome and i cant wait for the Alvin and the chipmunks 2 because i’m interested in seing what the chipettes will get introduced in the movie and i’m glad that it’s still on their minds!!!
Posted by britany on May 25th, 2008OK, I totally have to disagree with this.. article? I mean, yea sure, AAC is obviously not gunna be like it as, but that doent make it crap!! I absolutely fell in love with this movie! Like, you know they couldn’t make them 4 feet tall like the cartoon, that just wouldnt have worked. And plus does anyone even take into account how long this took to do and ho bloody hrd it was? C’mon! Even if you didnt like, dont diss it like that. It’s OK to have an opinio, but becaue you think something, doesnt make it a fact.
Ex: “Man, I’ve really gotta get into the business of making family movies. Basically, you can churn out crap like Alvin & The Chipmunks and still rake in a boatload of cash… no questions asked.” That’s just ignorant and pompus.
Posted by Amanda on June 6th, 2008I don’t think that Ross jr. is making a good move by bring back the chipettes, i mean look at the basic look at the basic concept for the movie: Dave meets three talking chipmunks, who can sing. Mayb it’s just me but that sounds a bit familiar, oh ya that was the basic concept for the last one. Now i’m not saying that i would’nt go see it if the idea is never changed but still. Now i have a great idea that i’ve gotten lots of good comments on, but Ross jr. is to hard of a man to get in contact with.

Posted by Brandon M. Hildreth on July 28th, 2008hmm.. not a fan of chipmunks. they are cute though.
Posted by ann on July 29th, 2008I grew up watching the chipmunks, and I have to say, I love them. I can’t help it:) I do not think that the movie was well done, but none the less adorable. The only thing I’m worried about with the new movie, if they bring in the chipettes, is how they will be portrayed. I mean, you can’t put hair on a real-live chipmunk, right? How do you make them look more… feminine… then the fellahs? They’ll figure something out, I suppose, but still, it’s got to be an obstacle.
All the same, I’m excited:D
Posted by Vixxen on January 11th, 2009When I heard that they were going to make a new Alvin and the Chipmunks, I was outraged. I thought, how could they turn a 2D classic into a modern megamovie? But, was I wrong! The movie was hilarious and it totally brought back memories from when I was a kid. I’m sure that the movie can work for any age, I swear. I’m also really excited to watch the upcoming Squeakuel this December. I can’t wait to see the Chipettes! Yup! Those were the days!
Posted by Fingirl on January 29th, 2009Note: yeah, i thought about that too. How the girls will look like, i mean. But still, I’m sure things will turn out cute. I just hope just as nice as the 2D ones!
