Prom Night Remake Trailer

However terrible you thought the upcoming remake of Prom Night was probably going to be, I am guessing that this trailer is even worse. I still have not seen the remake of Black Christmas, and now I can safely say I will do everything in my power to avoid wasting my time with this remake as well. The trailer opens with a pop-punk cover of Cyndie Lauper’s “Time After Time”, and a bunch of hot young TV actors and actresses preparing for the big day. It turns out the movie is directed by Nelson McCormick, a guy whose resume is steeped in TV shows as well — everything from Nip/Tuck to ER to Third Watch to VIP. Yes, VIP.

Now in the original, I believe there was some sort of accidental death that was being covered up, and as a result it was a bit of a revenge story. In the new version, the back story has been changed to “3 years ago, this guy got obsessed with a young female student and he went psycho… and he’s been in maximum security prison up until 3 days ago!”. Lame. I’m not going to say that the original is sacred ground that should never be tread on, but at this point why even bother using the name? No one who is a fan of the original is even going to give this the time of day. Anyway, check out the trailer below if you think you can stomach it! Prom Night hits theatres on April 11th.

  1. Wow, that looks like CRAP! Reminded me of an episode of Dawson’s Creek… not that I watched that show. Still, it will probably make 20 million bucks and have three sequels.

  2. I haven’t seen the original yet, but the trailer doesn’t look THAT bad… And Sean, the BLACK CHRISTAMS remake sucks big time, yes!

  3. Are we scared yet? This sucks (unless there is some mind altering twist like in Sleepaway Camp).

  4. Wow. The saddest thing about this is that some of the actors have done phenomenal work in their television roles. The pretty-boy male lead is Scott Porter, whose work as the wheelchair-bound former star quarterback on Friday Night Lights has been consistently grounded and moving. And Idris Elba, the actor playing the cop/security guard, was brilliant on The Wire. PG-13 horror movies need to go away, especially PG-13 remakes of R-rated horror films.

  5. Oh good god. I watched that trailer without sound and even then I could just feel the nails on chalkboard feel of this crummy remake. Time to brush up with the original – a good ‘ole Canadian slasher horror.

  6. What happened to grainy, creepy horror movies? Films like this are too bright and shiny for their own good. Not that that is the only thing wrong with the trailer, but that’s the first thing I noticed.

  7. Whenever I see a movie that being called a remake of some movie now, whether its good or not and that I haven’t seen, it makes me want to go watch the original. This remake, for example, I have no interest whatsoever and I am not going to bother looking at the trailer, but I’ve added another movie to my BBonline queue.
