The Year of Getting To Know Us Trailer aka Rocket Starring Jimmy Fallon
It seems like if you’re a comedian and you want to make it as a serious actor in Hollywood, at some point you’re going to try and land yourself a role in one of these indie dramedy deals, in order to buy yourself some street cred. If you’re smart, maybe you’ll try and mimick the careers of Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, and yes even Adam Sandler. Case in point: former SNL heartthrob Jimmy Fallon.
His movie career hasn’t fully taken off yet, but I give him credit for acting in movies like Factory Girl alongside his bigger paychecks like Taxi and Fever Pitch. Next up is The Year of Getting to Know Us (aka Rocket), written and directed by Patrick Sisam. I first saw the trailer for this flick over at /Film and FirstShowing.net, and it seems like it could either be a great career move or a horrible one. The movie has an interesting supporting cast that includes Sharon Stone, Tom Arnold and Lucy Liu — not exactly the biggest names working right now, but capable nonetheless. It didn’t strike me as being all that funny, but the trailer has a song from The Go! Team in it, so it must be hip, right? Check out the trailer for The Year of Getting To Know Us below and tell us where you think Fallon is headed.

it looked different but it still had comedic actors like will arnett and tom arnold.
Posted by Drew on January 3rd, 2008Wow. This could go either way. I’ve always liked Tom Arnold though. This sort of looks like the strength of this film will be measured by its dialogue. If it’s too ridiculous and quirky (ala Juno), there might be a bit of a backlash. If it’s a bit smarter, yet stil funny (ala Thank you For Smoking), then this could do well for me.
Posted by Andrew James on January 3rd, 2008Yeah, I think it has potential but it reminds me of a bad remake of last year’s little seen British film “When Did You Last See Your Father”.
Posted by Marina on January 3rd, 2008yet another rip-off of Garden State, joining the ranks of films such as Elizabethtown.
Posted by Bill on January 3rd, 2008Drew – That’s Tony Hale in the trailer, not Will Arnett.
I can’t say that this trailer interests me very much. It just came off as another cheap stab at the “awkward comedy with catchy indy music” genre that’s been going around lately. In fact, the only thing that really caught my eye about it was the fact that it’s got Buster (the previously mentioned Tony Hale) from Arrested Development in it.
Posted by Rian on January 3rd, 2008Does anyone know the songs in the trailer?
Posted by Doc on January 4th, 2008Specifically trying to figure out the “woo hoo, woo hoo” song. No not Blur – Song 21, but the one in the trailer. Just listen, yo. BTW, love the podcast. Video coming soon?
Posted by Doc on January 4th, 2008Shit! It’s gwen stefani. The music ID function on my phone miraculously figured it out with only three seconds of input. I thought it was something waaay more indie like Klaxons or something. That little woo hoo part is the only good part of the song. And everything that jimmy fallon touches was already shit to begin with, now its just shit that’s been touched by jimmy.
