Welcome to Film Junk 2.0: The Rebirth

filmjunk20.jpg

Prepare yourselves for a new era in Film Junk history. After months of preparation, experimentation and impregnation, we are finally ready to unveil Film Junk 2.0: The Rebirth!

What better way to usher in the New Year than with a brand new site design? We’re pretty sure that this is yet another step in the right direction for Film Junk, and hopefully you all feel that this is still somewhat familiar… yet shinier. Many thanks to Kevin at KREWdesign for all his expertise and hard work. If you experience any weirdness, make sure to refresh your web browser. If you continue to experience weirdness, then let us know! We’re going to be tweaking some things and adding a few more features in the coming weeks, so please do let us know if you have comments or concerns. Until then… enjoy!

  1. mom its boken.

I assume some of this is because things arent loading properly yet/being tweaked, but all the images run together, the comment box i’m typing in here is alarmingly narrow, and if possible making the ‘comments’ button a different color would maybe be a good idea.

looking forward to it when it looks like its supposed to though :P

  2. there we go.

    Slick.

will miss the images in the banner though.

  3. All the stuff in the right hand column drops below the last post on the left hand side!

I like the bold title header.

No sign of the Film Junkyard podcast?

  4. Hey guys, the video podcast will be up in a couple minutes, just writing the post now.

  5. I like the new design. I usually fear the coming of a change of design for a site that I frequent, and this occasion was no different. I’m really happy with the way the site has turned out, though. It’s similar to the old look, but more sleek and pleasing to the eye. Nice work, guys.

  6. Very classy… nice job, guys.

  7. Yup. Looks good. The same, but different… and… better! A little bit cleaner than the last evolution. Nice. Ok, off to watch the videocast now.

    Cheers and Happy New Year!

  8. Looks pretty wicked. I’d prefer the recent comments section of the sidebar to be placed above the archive though, but I guess that’s nitpicking? It’s alittle more useful I think, at least for obsessive film junkies.

I do feel a huge pressure now though, because I am no. 1 top commenter on the site. Better start some huge debates (when does Wall-E come out?) so that I will keep this position!

  9. You get my nod of approval .. & people say re-incarnation is illogical .. tuh ;)

  10. I thought I stumbled upon the wrong site. Still looks good.

  11. I like the new look. Great job guys!

  12. Glad everyone likes it! If you notice any bugs at all, or have any suggestions, let us know.

@TheSnowLeopard: Which browser are you using?

  13. the look of the posts is ok, but the sidebar is awesome.

  14. Okay guys, Kevin has fixed the comment posting problem, so please let us know if you’re still having any issues.

  15. Also if the “Most Popular Posts” and “Recent Comments” headlines were links to a complete listing it would be cool. Like the “more recent comments” link you had before.

  16. It would be nice to have a list somewhere on the site of the movies that you guys review in the podcast, and a summary of the rating everyone gave it. Like:
    Transformers —- Sean X/4, Jay X/4, Greg X/4

Sometimes I want to go to see a movie that’s been out for a few weeks and don’t want to hassle with going through all the podcasts just to get a quick idea of how good each movie is. (Hope this makes sense)

  17. ^disagree with Joe. I like the surprise of having to wait through the show to find out.

  18. I think he means for it to be a separate section of the site, not necessarily integrated in the show notes. I agree if it was in the show notes it wouldn’t be as fun, but a secluded section would probably be pretty good.

  19. Yea.. i don’t want to see it before the podcast… but say it is a month later and there’s no good movie releases that weekened and I want to see something (read: bored). I’d like to look back and find the best one I haven’t seen yet. Going through the podcasts one-by-one is obviously time consuming for just a simple: “which one was decent?”

  20. Hey Joe, I think your idea is a good one… we’ve been trying to come up with a way to add a short written blurb to go along with the movie we review on the podcast each week. As it is, we can go for weeks without a written review being posted, so the reviews section gets kind of outdated even though we’ve been reviewing them in the podcast. I’m going to try and get more written reviews up in general though.

Henrik: We’ll definitely get a full page of comments history and most popular posts too.

  21. I don’t want to suggest that you guys spend a lot of time writing reviews (it’s up to you), as I prefer to hear the audio review. That’s one thing I like about your site versus others: everyone does a text review (even I do sometimes). Also, you pretty much get every big name movie when the podcast is once a week, so I feel like the work is already done. Hope this helps.

  22. Awesome. This rules.

  23. Looks good guys! Very sleek!
